The 2005 Season

You will notice tomorrow that the standings show fewer points than a typical season.  There was lockout that shortened the season.  Both the CHL and AHA both made it mandatory to use two zambonis for the first time.  The leagues also struck a deal with FOX to broadcast games for the first time on a major network.

IRL this was the last season that the Nordiques played in Quebec before moving to Denver.  Additionally the Whalers were sold leaving the writing on the wall of a potential relocation.

The Draft
5 - Jeff O'Neil - Bighorns
6 - Ryan Smyth - Sawblades
9 - Brett Lindros - Ghosts
44 - Jose Theodore - Dragons
51 - Patrik Elias - Loons
64 - Fredrik Modin - Wranglers
71 - Sheldon Souray - Loons
72 - Chris Drury - Chevaliers
87 - Milan Hejduk - Chevaliers
124 - Marty Turco - Titans
217 - Tim Thomas - Chevaliers
226 - Tomas Vokoun - Dragons
233 - Steve Sullivan - Loons

The 2005 Season

The drama, oh the drama! The 2005 season was filled with interesting storylines.  Following the lockout the leagues got back to work.  In the CHL, the Terriers returned to the top of the standings with an impressive season.  The young Chevaliers jumped back into the playoffs after a down year.  We welcome the Vancouver Glaciers to the mix as their young star Eric Lindros takes the league by storm.  The Halifax Kingfishers also returned back to the postseason after a brief absence.  The defending champion Wranglers fell from grace in a hard way with a second-to-last place finish.

In the AHA, the Rovers and Racers came down to a tiebreaker at the end of the season for the East Division title.  New York continues to be a playoff mainstay while the Founders once again yo-yo down - out of the playoffs after another great season.  The West Division story was that of average play.  The Seawolves return to the playoffs to carry the torch for the west.  While incrementally, the Bighorns have started to dig themselves out of the cellar of the West Division.

Canadian Shield VI Playoffs
#1 Toronto Terriers versus #4 Halifax Kingfishers

#2 Montreal Chevaliers versus #3 Vancouver Glaciers

2005 Adams Cup Playoffs
#1 Boston Rovers versus #4 New York Gargoyles

#2 Seattle Seawolves versus #3 Charlotte Racers
Can the Racers curse be reversed? Will this be the year when they get the checkered flag?
