The Canadian Shield V Playoffs!
#1 Minnesota Loons versus #4 Winnipeg Arrows
The arch rivals meet again in the first round of the playoffs. After a down season last year the Loons are back on top and put away the arrows in five games. By the way, I can't get over how the Arrows have two hall of game goalies on their roster at the moment.

D - 27 - Scott Niedermayer
D - 4 - Scott Stevens (Captain)
F - 11 - Jim Dowd

#2 Toronto Terriers versus #3 Calgary Wranglers
Home ice advantage was extremely important in this series. The home team won every game until the dramatic seventh game where the Wranglers triumphed in Toronto.

Helpful Hint: The Wellfields Center doesn’t open until 2009. They’re still playing at the Martins Coliseum.

The Wranglers love playing at Calgary Gardens. Most other teams are shocked by the sheer ridiculousness of hosting 42 games outdoors and, instead of laser focus on playing their best, many opponents are caught deep in thought, trying to work out what the maintenance costs are on this place.

Portland has literally never won a game in this building, they just can’t comprehend. Well that and the fact they play in different leagues, but still.

I like to picture this game. Sawblades skate on the ice, look around, completely dumbfounded. Wranglers skating and passing with ease around these Portland players not even playing, just slack-jawed and staring at the stadium around them.

(Post game interview with Red Hydrant)
"Can't even blame my players for the 12-1 loss. Like, how does this place work? Could you imagine the maintenance cost?"
This is also why Portland did not have a bid for an outdoor game. It scared the organization.

Prosecutor Edgeworth’s short answer to the debacle, “The fact that they get to host 41 home games outdoors is blasphemous.”
