Exposed. #Beaten. Champions.
Pretty sure we're gonna retire Richter's number after that performance along with Messier and Leetch!

The 2003 Season
A relatively uneventful offseason in terms of major transactions and notable draft picks.
The Draft
5-Darius Kasparitis (CHI)
14-Sergei Gonchar (SEA)
19-Martin Straka (CHA)
32-Jim Carey (SEA)
33-Valeri Bure (SF)
48-Mattias Norstrom (PHI)
88-Jere Lehtinen (LA)
It was a big offseason for the NHL at the time. Gary Bettman came on as the league's first commissioner. The league struck a deal to be on ESPN for the first time. Most notably the league expanded to include the Ottawa Senators and Tampa Bay Lightning. They joined the league one year after the San Jose Sharks joined the league.

The 2003 Season
In an exciting season we saw the emergence of the elite teams. Halifax, Charlotte, and New York were the class of the league and the most feared entering the playoffs.
The Canadian Shield Playoffs
#1 Halifax Kingfishers versus #4 Calgary Wranglers
Calgary comes back to the playoffs for the first time since 2000. The Kingfishers are looking to cement their dynasty with their third straight Shield.
#2 Montreal Chevaliers versus #3 Toronto Terriers
After being perennial losers the Chevs and Terriers square off for the first time in the playoffs. This matchup is a sign of things to come in the Shield playoffs.
The Adams Cup Playoffs
#1 Charlotte Racers versus #4 Seattle Seawolves
After two straight first round exits to the eventual champions, the Racers are hungry to reverse their fortunes. This year, they are the top dog going into the playoffs. They welcome Seattle, the team that lost in the finals last year to Philadelphia.
#2 San Francisco Dragons versus #3 New York Gargoyles
The Dragons are the three-time West Division champions. However the ultimate prize has eluded them. They face the Gargoyles in a titanic bicoastal clash.

How is it possible for every team in the CHL to have a winning record except Vancouver, who's only 1/2 a game below .500
