March 29, 1990
Lines are forming outside of multiplexes across the country as New Line Cinema's release of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie premieres at midnight tonight. In the meantime, a press conference is being held at the Town and Country resort in San Diego. Former NHL draft bust Ramsey Mullins, then 29, along with his former coach and one-time WHA enforcer Milo Castle, 47, are in town to announce the formation of the Roller Hockey League. Both men had talked about forming an ice league, but realized a talent war with the NHL would be fool-hearty. Even though roller hockey has been played for decades at youth and recreational levels, this is the very first time anyone has attempted to form a major roller league.
Also there was 32 year old Finn Wheeler, a billionaire playboy, hockey fan, and an heir to the fortune of one of the major roller skate manufacturers in North America: Wheeler Skate Company. It is Wheeler's financial backing that will help provide part of the capital necessary to get the RHL off the ground.
With so many TV networks hungry for programming to fill the time slots, the RHL has already received bids from Fox, USA Network, ESPN, TBS, TNT and even MTV.
The RHL begins play in Summer 1991 with eight teams. The first to have its name and logo leaked to the media was the New York Rhymes.
Here's the alignment for 1991.
East: Atlanta Soda Jerks, Cleveland Moondogs, Miami MerBlades, New York Rhymes
West: Arizona Gila Monsters, Bay Area Cyborgs, Los Angeles Action, Rocky Mountain Xtreme

I really like the R-note primary logo. It's a wild color scheme, perfect for a roller league. Great start!

“Feel the rhythm. Feel the rhyme. Get on up, it’s bobsled time! COOOOOOOLLLLLL RUUNNNINNGGSS” - Walt Disney Pictures. (1993). Cool Runnings.
I might have gotten Disney+ recently, but this is what Rhymes make me think of. Grade A concept and a grade A idea for a thread. Should be fun!

Xtreme indeed. You nailed this whole vibe tremendously. That's like the perfect 90's logo. The x-striping is perfectly gaudy.
