Two huge wins by Ottawa to start the season is definitely a surprise. Wonder if they can work a little magic and steal a playoff appearance this season.

26-20 BOS - FG K Johnnie Berg
The Independents came home to get a strong win over the Thunder.
The Thunder defence was still strong enough to keep Boston from getting to the endzone, but K Johnnie Berg was on point going 4 for 4 on field goals in the game to help the team to their second win of the season.
The Thunder offence took a while to get going, they would score a pair of touchdowns in the second half, but they need to be better in order to continue to win games.
Boston’s defence had a strong game with DB Petr Westerberg grabbing a pick and LB Konrad Aust getting a forced fumble.
Long Island Raiders - 12, London Tigers - 21 - Long Island Stadium - July 6, 1962 - 7 PM ET - Weather: Cloudy

4th Q
12-14 LI - FG K Henderson Schumacher
12-21 LDN - RTD RB Clifford Russell
The Tigers got back on the winning side with a strong win in Long Island.
The Raiders’ offence was unable to get into the endzone in the game getting stalled out but the Tigers’ defence anytime they got close.
Frustration continues to mount on the island with the team’s second straight 0-3 start.
The Tigers’ also snagged a pair of turnovers from LB Dallas Dillard and DB Jackson Miles which stole any momentum the Raiders were able to muster in the first half.
Montreal Rouge - 28, The Athletics - 13 - Mount Royal Stadium - July 7, 1962 - 3 PM ET - Weather: Partly Cloudy

28-6 ATH - FG K Elvis Franklin
4th Q

The Rouge rebounded from their tough loss against the Royals to get a strong win over The Athletics.
QB Gene Bishop threw for a pair of touchdowns while RB Scott Mallard-White matched him on the ground with 2 touchdowns of his own.
The defence caused a lot of havoc for The Athletics with 3 turnovers in the first half from DL Hubert Tessier, S Garet deVale, and LB Patrick Terry.
The Athletics were able to get a little bit of late offence with a Tony Albano touchdown, but they continue to be clearly outmatched.
Providence Gold Stars - 20, Ottawa Royals - 24 - New Providence Stadium - July 7, 1962 - 7 PM ET - SNF - Weather: Clear
1st Q
7-0 PRO - RTD RB Marcus Devonshire

17-17 OTT - RTD RB Alexei Volkov
4th Q
20-17 PRO - FG K Ira Foster
20-24 OTT - PTD QB Jean Matieau -> WR Chester Bennett
A literal back and forth game had the Royals and Gold Stars going down to the final minutes where a QB Jean Matieau-led drive would break the cycle and win the game for the Royals.
The Royals continued their hot start with the offence and defence being able to go toe-to-toe with the Gold Stars.
DL Olaf Viktorsson made a big difference in getting to O’Rourke and forcing a fumble.
S Randall Green also had a pick for the Royals.
Providence made it a tough game with strong defensive play from DB Neville Falkner and DL Calias McDonough.
Buffalo Blue Wings - 14, Indiana Victors - 14 - Buffalo Civic Stadium - July 8, 1962 - 2 PM ET - Weather: Partly Cloudy
1st Q
2nd Q
7-0 BUF - RTD RB Jimmy Golden

14-0 BUF - PTD QB Charles Lemieux -> WR Daniel Irons
4th Q
14-7 IND - PTD QB Stanley Troyer -> TE Emmanuel Hines
14-14 IND - PTD QB Stanley Troyer -> WR Ed Edwards
The Victors would come from behind to force a tie with the Buffalo Blue Wings on a last-minute touchdown pass from QB Stanley Troyer.
Buffalo was in control for the entire game but seemed to take their foot off the gas in the 4th quarter which was just enough to let the Victors get back into the game.
QB Stanley Troyer had a strong performance in the 4th but had 2 picks in the first 3 quarters.
DB Dean Hawkins and S Frazier Brooks came down with the picks for the Blue Wings.
However, the worst news came early in the 4th with DL Lonnie Vincent leaving the game with a major injury which will end his season early.

The Independents came through with a big win over the Victors led by RB Kendall Morgan who had a 2 touchdown performance.
K Johnnie Berg had another big day with 4 more field goals, while S Drew Porter, DB Lawrence Ralph, and LB Konrad Aust all had picks in the game.
The Victors, unfortunately, lost QB Stanley Troyer to injury which led to QB Mike Key going in.
Key did alright, leading the team to a touchdown, but still threw 2 of the 2 interceptions on the day.
Ottawa Royals - 36, The Athletics - 20 - Royals Stadium at Brewer Park - July 14, 1962 - 3 PM ET - Weather: Cloudy

The Royals won their second straight against The Athletics to improve to 4-0 for the first time since 1959.
Jean Matieau had another 3 passing touchdowns extending his lead in the league.
The defence had their fair share of strong moments with DL Olaf Viktorsson grabbing a fumble as well as LB Killian Reed and then former Athletic DB Wesley Scott and DB Mingan Oliver had picks.
The Athletics still managed to score a couple of touchdowns, but they still were no match for the Royals.
Louisville Thunder - 26, Montreal Rouge - 14 - Thunder Stadium - July 14, 1962 - 7 PM ET - SNF - Weather: Rain
1st Q
7-0 LOU - PTD QB Leonidas Dumont -> WR Clyde McIntosh

3rd Q
17-14 MTL - PTD QB Gene Bishop -> WR Derek Cross
20-14 LOU - FG K Donald Brewer
4th Q
26-14 LOU - PTD QB Leonidas Dumont -> WR Piers Key
The Thunder rebounded from their loss to the Independents with a strong win at home over the Rouge.
Dumont was solid with a pair of touchdowns and 302 passing yards.
The defence was strong as usual with LB Scotty Williams getting a fumble, DB Alexander Bradley and S Johnny Berger getting an interception.
The Rouge continued to struggle so far this season with their offence sputtering.
2 Interceptions was not ideal for Bishop in the game and there is growing criticism surrounding him and the Rouge so far this season from both the fans and the ownership.
Long Island Raiders - 28, Buffalo Blue Wings - 24 - Long Island Stadium - July 15, 1962 - 1 PM ET - Weather: Partly Cloudy
1st Q
7-0 LI - PTD QB Lyle Painter -> TE Andrew Mathias

21-17 LI - RTD RB Dareion Fields
4th Q
21-24 BUF - PTD QB Charles Lemieux -> WR Zachariah Pembroke
28-24 LI - PTD QB Lyle Painter -> WR Wilson Queensgate
The Raiders finally broke their winless streak with a come-from-behind win over the Blue Wings.
RB Dareion Fields took off in the second half in what was one of his best games since suffering a season-ending injury a couple of seasons ago.
QB Lyle Painter responded to his lackluster start with a strong 2-touchdown performance.
The Blue Wings were still strong in the loss with Lemieux throwing 2 touchdowns of his own.
London Tigers - 29, Providence Gold Stars - 19 - Western Fair Stadium - July 15, 1962 - 4 PM ET - Weather: Clear
1st Q

4th Q
20-19 PRO - PTD QB Connor O’Rourke -> WR Cedric Peterson
26-19 LDN - RTD RB Clifford Russell
29-19 LDN - FG K Nimrod Handsworth
RB Clifford Russell ran all over the Gold Stars in a 3-touchdown performance to give the Tigers their 3rd win of the season.
The Tigers' defence gave the Gold Stars a lot of trouble as well with DL Richard Blunt getting a forced fumble and a sack, and then DB Bob Ellis had an interception.
The Gold Stars were able to fight back with a DB Slay Mitchell interception on their defence.
The offence was fine aside from the 2 turnovers, with O’Rourke throwing a pair of TDs but there is a lot of concern about the team being able to keep up in the increasingly difficult East.

The Victors earned their first win of the season with QB Mike Key under centre.
Key threw his first career touchdown in the win along with 221 passing yards.
The Raiders got down early and it turned into frustration early, the team has just been unable to get any grip this season.
The Victors’ defence had some strong moments with DB Kelly Kirkland grabbing a pick and DL Fred Webster and DL William Sanderson each getting a forced fumble.

WR Zachariah Pembroke broke free for a 3 touchdown performance against The Athletics in the NAAF’s return to Kitchener.
Buffalo had a strong performance all around with the defence pitching in for 2 turnovers with LB Orion Carter getting his first career forced fumble and DB Lou Lake grabbing a pick.
The Athletics still got down the field to score, but they could barely get close enough for an easy kick so K Elvis Franklin missed a couple for singles.

The Tigers and Independents went down to the wire in their week 5 battle which ended with the Tigers narrowly escaping with the win.
K Nimrod Handsworth had a strong game with 4 field goals, and RB Clifford Russell made more noise on the ground.
The Independents kept it close on the back of WR Ellis Lindholm’s two touchdowns, but the Tigers just ended up being the better team at the end.

RB Johnnie Stafford and RB Rodney Clark combined for a strong game each scoring a touchdown.
DB Alexander Bradley ended up with a pick-6 and DL Bjorn Sigmarsson had a fumble as well.
The Royals weren’t bad, but the Thunder were able to shut them down in the final 6 minutes of the 4th.

O’Rourke had a 3 touchdown performance throwing for 356 passing yards.
Neville Falkner was strong with a pick-6 and then DL Calias McDonough and LB Rusty McVee each had a fumble.
The Rouge have just seemed like they have been lacking a lot so far this season and the owner is starting to become fed up which is seriously putting the coaching staff on edge about their jobs.

Damn, the Rouge really look like they are gonna miss the playoffs. On the other hand, glad to see Buffalo back on the winning track even if they were facing the Athletics

how did Montreal fell off that quickly
