I really like the He-Man look Milwaukee's got going on, might have to call them my team until the QC gets a team.

Re: History of the National Football Association - 1974-75 Season

So I know I said this would be up yesterday, but I ended up revising some stuff and taking a day more to make sure I liked it. Hopefully y'all understand.
Without further ado, the NFA offseason.

1966 NFA Offseason Pt. 1

14th Annual NFA Draft :
1st - DT Robert Gay - University of California State - San Francisco Whales
2nd - DE Leo Smitts - Oklahoma A&M University - Cleveland Rangers
3rd - QB Gary Jones - Florida University - New York Cannons*
4th - OT Paul Black - Iowa State University - Milwaukee Barbarians
5th - MLB Joe Miller - Mississippi Christian University - Seattle Lumberjacks

Other Notable Picks:
11th - QB Lou Harris - University of Ohio - Boston Gaels
13th- WR Willie King - Western University - Philadelphia Hornets
19th- QB Stephen Hall - Los Angeles International College - Detroit Bombers
20th- WR George Parks - University of Ohio - Philadelphia Hornets (From Washington)

Roster Changes:
-Zephyrs trade OLB Eli Webber to Philadelphia for picks. Webber is an up and coming talent that didn’t fit in with Chicago’s scheme. His role in Philadelphia should be much more appreciated. Chicago got some future replacements for Webber in some higher picks.
-Tigers trade CB Dan Simmons to Boston for S Nick Hatfield. In a puzzling move Simmons is traded in a steal for Boston. It wasn’t until soon after the deal came out that details emerged of him and head coach Ray Warren being at arms with each other all season and Simmons failing to show up to team events because of it. He was traded to clear up air in the locker room. It was reportedly becoming pretty toxic in general in the Tigers locker room, thanks to the consistent disappointing postseason exits. It’ll be interesting how that plays out next season.

Coaching Changes:
-Whales clean house, fire the whole coaching staff. This shouldn’t be surprising, the team hasn’t had a winning record in the team’s first 7 seasons, something has to change. They hire Morris Smith as the HC,  John Bostitch as the OC, and James Camden as the DC. Smith is a bit of a strange choice because he’s only had 2 seasons as a coach at the collegiate level and none at the professional level. Those 2 seasons were spent as the OC for Ohio University in the last 2 years.

League News:
-Commissioner Cherry announced that a 3 team expansion has been in the works for the 67-68 season. He says that the leagues desire to get a team back in Pittsburgh, balance out the teams to an even number, and spread the leagues influence has brought upon this revelation. Cherry announced excitedly that this will finally balance the teams once again and be able to bring more fans into the wonderful sport. Something he’s been interested in since the Bulldogs were reincarnated. He also mentioned limiting the amount of bids to 5. This came after some talks with some promising bids from Buffalo and St. Louis. Both look the best to have a team since the Tigers left their respective cities. St. Louis in particular since the last time the league had adventured there, it wasn’t the most promising experience. Since these bids are cities looking to return to the league, the league decided to hold off on any big west coast expansions like Denver or San Diego, two cities who the NFA is definitely interested in expanding to soon, and rather focus on giving some former markets a team and filling in the last gaps in the northeast and midwest. (I will post the council on the next post)
-However this expansion is not without controversy however. Many turned their eyes to one of the proposed bids; Dallas, TX. Obviously, this ruffled some feathers, the SFL’s best team is in Dallas so many were confused by the move. Some wild theories suggested that the NFA was much more worried about the SFL than thought, and hoped it would hopefully financially cripple the most successful team by stealing their fans. Others didn’t think this because they saw the SFL as a sinking ship, nothing worth the NFA’s time. This was much more plausible, the Dallas bid included a 70,000 seat brand new stadium in the Dallas metro area, it was an offer they couldn’t pass up. The Roughriders play in Fort Worth as is, so any conflict between the two teams would really be miniscule. It was really quiet for a while, many thought the drama had worked itself out, but SFL Commissioner James Kennedy would finally say something. He argued that they aren’t allowed to place a team in a similar area to his Texas Roughriders, who, like previously said, are located in Fort Worth. But many on the side of the NFA argued that since, like Kennedy said himself, the Riders are in Fort Worth and the proposed Metro Stadium is in Dallas then they aren’t infringing upon anything. The argument would fizzle out eventually with the SFL seemingly apparently settling for defeat. Dallas wasn’t the end of the expansion drama however, Pittsburgh had some conversations stirring around the same time as well. This is because of the potential owner of this return to Pittsburgh, the recent talk of the town in the SFL and the former Birmingham Anvils owner, Jack Sims. He wasn’t the original leader of this bid, but he got in on the bid as soon as he could. After attempting to move his Anvils squad to Pittsburgh himself, it was clear he was interested in bringing Pittsburgh a football team again, therefore it didn’t take long for the founders of this bid and him to come together to work out something together. Obviously questions lingered over from the SFL season about his personal fights with Kennedy, he still refused to comment however, asking to just put that behind him as he moves forward with the NFA and Pittsburgh.
-Along with the news of the expansion teams, some more somber news came out. Two Detroit greats retired, DE George Portson and QB Houston Henderson. Both played for the Bombers their entire careers and were the first stars in the franchise’s history. Henderson was the first ever pick of the NFA Annual Draft and while he never won an MVP, was one of the best QB’s in the league during his prime going to 2 Champions Bowls, winning 1 of them. Henderson was an inspiration for many and was the second half of one of football’s greatest rivalries, Detroit vs Chicago. Him and Scott Hogg faced off in 5 different NFA West Championships, and several fantastic regular season games. Portson was an all time Bomber, and a great defender, winning a MOR award and a MOD award.

Preseason Power Rankings:
1.Philadelphia Hornets
2.Boston Gaels
3.Minneapolis Blue Ox
4.Washington Pirates
5.Los Angeles Tigers
6.New York Cannons
7.Baltimore Bulldogs
8.Detroit Bombers
9.Chicago Zephyrs
10.Milwaukee Barbarians
11.Cleveland Rangers
12.Seattle Lumberjacks
13.San Francisco Whales

NFA Top Stars:
A new offseason tradition was born this summer. From now on, every summer all players and coaches will vote on their top 10 offensive players in the league, and top 10 defensive players in the league. This list will be called the NFA Top Stars and will be listed on a players resume next to their All-Star Bowl appearances. The All-Star Bowl having been resurrected about a decade ago and has been traditionally played two weeks after the Champions Bowl.
With all that explained now, here’s the first Top Stars list!

Offensive:
1.QB Kieth Lincoln - Los Angeles
2.RB Charley Rodgers - Detroit
3.QB Oscar Washington - Philadelphia
4.RB Stevie Parks - Boston
5.WR James Audrey - Boston
6.RB Sam Peck - Los Angeles
7.WR Val Goodman - Los Angeles
8.RB Kent Ross - Minneapolis
9.QB Eugene Addams - Minneapolis
10.QB Donald McCloud - Boston

Defensive:
1.DE Monty Jones - Washington
2.LB Bob Hayes - Baltimore
3.CB Dan Simmons - Boston
4.DT Tyree Matthews - New York
5.CB David Potts - Minneapolis
6.DE Greg Waterson - New York
7.DE Curly Smith - Detroit
8.OLB George Lindwell - New York
9.LB George Pope - Cleveland
10.DT Glen Sawyer - Seattle

Identity Changes:
-6 Teams update their uniform template. Inspired by the SFL’s shorter sleeved template, the Cannons, Gaels, Tigers, Rangers, Whales and Zephyrs all adopt it. Those 6 teams also update their helmet model while they’re at it, introducing a 2 bar style facemask that will see the rest of the league adopt it by next season. Finally, Los Angeles adds a new Tigers paw helmet logo to their helmets, and Boston and New York make big tweaks to their uniforms and identity outside of the template.
Here's the updated teams! (Cleveland will have a post of their own because I am looking for some feedback!)

C&C Appreciated! There's a lot going on this offseason so let me know if I missed anything! Do not post your choices for the expansion teams until I post the council. If you vote now it will not be counted.
