Re: AltLiga Season 2023-24

Guess what? The defense is back. Atlético once again held their opponents to the lowest score on the week and picked up a win, and with Joburg beating the snot out of Amsterdam, we're back in a tie at the top of the table. This week takes us back on the road, and for the first time, we'll get to wear our primary kits away from Camp Vell, as we head to the Continental Divide to take on Istanbul. Julián Álvarez led the offensive charge last week with one goal and two shots on target, and gets to model the maroon kits this time around.

Re: AltLiga Season 2023-24

That's one way to prove that Joburg is no fluke. Putting up the most points all season, the Golden Lions found the goal 5 times against Amsterdam with help from frequent contributors such as Odegaard, JWP, and Bruno G., but Ollie Watkins will get the showcase once again after getting a hat trick and 2 assists in Saturday's contest. We'll look to extend the winning streak on the road against Independencia, who as now sit on the top of the table. We will remain in the teal kits for now to fight to get to the top of the table. #StayGold

Re: AltLiga Season 2023-24

Following another international break, Eye of the Sun is heading south the South Africa to take on Joburg City 94. The Falcons are looking for the win in the first matchup of the African Derby. Eye of the Sun is looking for their 6th win on the season in this one, and we're shuffling some things around in the Starting XI to see if we can get a few more point opportunities. One man who will be out there as usual is Dutch defender Micky van de Ven, in the main kit for this one. #TheGoldStandard

Re: AltLiga Season 2023-24

It's been two weeks since we last saw AltLiga action, and once again I've completely forgotten what happened in our last game. I'm sure it was nothing to be embarrassed about. In any case, Atlético returns home to take on our neighbors from across the Pyrenees. Olympique has not played particularly well the last few weeks, but after so much time off, who knows what could happen. Our biggest lineup change was inserting M Alfie Doughty to the mix, who delivered 2 key passes and won 3 tackles.

Re: AltLiga Season 2023-24

Well after the highest scoring week in the league, Joburg scored well but it wasn't enough to take down Independencia, ending our win streak at 4. We'll have a chance to restart it returning home to the Calabash to take on Eye of the Sun in the African Derby. Our best player last week was goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who made three saves and earned his first clean sheet of the year (don't ask us the logistics on how he got a clean sheet and we lost). We'll remain in our primary kits for this golden derby. #StayGold

Re: AltLiga Season 2023-24

A tough fought loss in the Golden Derby leaves us at 5-4 on the season. We're back in the Pyramid for this one, as we welcome in FC Tokyo Sakura. We're looking to pick up our 6th win of the season, and continue to push towards the top of the table. We're going to wear the main kits for this one, and are featuring defenseman Vitalii Mykolenko. #TheGoldStandard

Re: AltLiga Season 2023-24

A big win over Olympique puts Atlético Barcelona back on the right track as we prepare to welcome London Public FC to Camp Vell. The Lionhearts have been an up-and-down team this year, so it's hard to know what to expect from them. We'll just focus on playing our game, which M Philip Billing has been doing quite well, spending every game in our starting XI. It would be easier to list the stats he didn't earn last week, but he notably produced a shot on target and an assist, as well as multiple key passes, interceptions, and clearances.

Re: AltLiga Season 2023-24

Joburg would hold on to their lead late against Eye of the Sun, winning the first leg in the Golden Derby and pushing us to 5-0-4 on the year and back in the top half of the league. We'll want to stay winning to catch up to the top of the table, remaining in the Calabash to take on Alfa Roma. They've come off a narrow defeat by the hands of Tokyo Sakura, and are eager to play spoiler and get their season back on track. It will be difficult against the resurgent Golden Lions, primarily led by transfer window signing F Ansu Fati, who has scored twice in his last three games played. It'll be the standard kits for the Golden Lions in our second game of the long homestand. #StayGold

Re: AltLiga Season 2023-24

Coming off the big win at home over FC Tokyo Sakura, the Falcons stay at Pyramid and welcome FC Alfa Roma to Cairo. Eye of the Sun looks to nab win number 7 and keep up the pace with the teams ahead of us in the standings, but I'm sure that Alfa is hungry for a win as well. We're highlighting Portuguese midfielder João Palhinha in this one, as he's coming off a season best performance against Tokyo, scoring the team's lone goal. We're going to stay in the main kit in this one. #TheGoldStandard

Re: AltLiga Season 2023-24

Atlético are now halfway through their longest homestand on the season, and our last before the Geo Cup. We get the two British teams back-to-back, as now that we've dispatched of London Public, we welcome St. Mungo to the foothills as we look to keep pace with the top of the table. D Nathan Collins was instrumental in holding onto our lead last week, with 5 clearances, 3 interceptions, and a clean sheet. Hopefully, he can play that kind of defense to shut down the Claret & Blue as well.
