1977 MARCOTTE CUP CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS
2 Yubay Glaciers vs 3 Kirlow Kodiaks
On paper, the Glaciers have a clear advantage but the Kodiaks have upset the Electrics and top-seeded Neptunes on the way to their third shot at a Marcotte Cup that has infamously alluded them. The Niko Side's last Marcotte appearance ended in a sweep at the hands of Kirkenport in 1971 and would like to bring home their third Cup with a revamped squad featuring the big Finnish sensation forward Pekka Jokinen. Both teams have incredibly deep rosters, with the Kodiaks led by the ever excellent forward Pascal Brink. Glaciers coach Craig McMurray is green on playoff experience while Kirlow coach Sam Bennett is a 3-time coach of the year. Yubay will hold home ice advantage, which could be key with the Glacier Dome being a difficult place to play for opposing teams. Two Kodiaks, G Greg Kannell and D Albert Golatt, won a pair of Cups with the Glaciers in the late 60's, while the Niko Side have three players remaining from those Cup runs, including former Cup MVP Peter Isaksson.
Game 1: KIR 0 @ YBG 4 – The atmosphere was raucous in the Glacier Dome and the Niko Side fed off the energy to the tune of 4 goals, including two by Isaksson, as Brian Mahaffey's net jitters returned.
Game 2: KIR 3 @ YBG 4 (OT) – Game 2 was decidedly different with both squads playing hard to a 3-3 tie to send it to overtime. A scramble in front of the net let forward Ferdinand Hendrix find a rebound that he flipped past Mahaffey for the win.
Game 3: YBG 2 @ KIR 1 (OT) – Back in Kirlow, the game was tense and the Kodiaks played tightly but a wrister from Jokinen tied it up late in the third and a well-timed deflection by defenseman Petro Yaroslav won it in overtime to shock the fans in Kirlow.
Game 4: YBG 7 @ KIR 0 – With their backs against the wall, the Kodiaks came out flat as the Glaciers pummeled first a hapless Mahaffey and then Kannell to 7 goals as they finished off a series sweep in style. Pekka Jokinen and Peter Isaksson both scored twice as dejected Kirlow fans left the building early and the Glaciers raised their third Marcotte Cup. Jokinen was awarded Series MVP.

So who currently has the most championships and finals appearances as well as playoff streaks in both leagues?

Alright, that's what we like to see! The Glaciers prove them all wrong once again! Excellent sweep of the Kodiaks to finish it off.

As of the end of the 1977 season:
Five teams are tied for most Cups with 3 each: Anchors, Captains, Falcons, Heralds, and Glaciers. The Port Alrene Anchors currently lead the league with total Cup appearances with 7. The Falcons are next with 6 total appearances.
The Anchors and Captains are tied at 4 for most Louis Trophies, the award for best regular season record in the THL.
As of 1977, the Whales have a 6-season and Kodiaks have a 7-season playoff streak going. Neither team has had much success with it though, with the Kodiaks losing all three Cup appearances during that span and the Whales unable to even make it back to the Cup.
In the short existence of the UHA, the Bancana Kings have won two championships. The Marauders, Wildcats and Swans haven't missed the playoffs.

The Kodiaks seem to be the early St. Louis Blues of this series, with several appearances but unable to win it all despite a really good team. All-Star forward Pascal Brink is still under 30 and the team has a nice core group of young players with forwards Mark Tegler and Marc Truong on the top line and young blue chip defenseman Jerry O'Reilly, the younger brother of Hall of Fame Defenseman Anton O'Reilly. Brian Mahaffey is still growing in the net and is All-Star level when he's locked in, but prone to the jitters on occasion as seen in the recent Finals. Coach Sam Bennett has won Coach of the Year three times. Expansion has hurt their depth though and their Indy pipeline is pretty bare so the team will need to get creative to get the most out of this group.

I don't do these every year but wanted to share them before we move on to the offseason. These are team cards for every team. If you didn't know, I typically only track 1st and and 2nd lines for forwards and defensemen out of simplicity but each team has a bevy of players in the team "pipeline" either as reserves or stashed on Indy League affiliate teams.
The All-Star selection notation is for the 1977 season. The Bertram Trophy is awarded to the runner-up for the Marcotte Cup (colloquially known around the league as the Loser's Cup) and the Louis Trophy is awarded to the team with the best regular season record. Divisions (Hatch and Willard) weren't instituted until 1972. Players in the team's Ring of Honor highlighted in gold are also Hall of Fame Inductees.
