1970 Kellogg Cup Super Series; Semi Finals
Roseau Stars vs New Ulm Bavarians
Things started off slow, with the first period ending scoreless without much action. Things picked up in the second after the Bavarians broke the deadlock. Once one got through the floodgates opened, with the Stars scoring three and the diamonds scoring one more to send us to the third with Roseau up 3-2. Roseau really stepped it up in the third, controlling the flow of play and preventing New Ulm from getting the puck anywhere near the slot, keeping them to the outside, away form scoring areas. Broten went in on a 1 on 2 against a pair of defensemen, weaving his way past one and firing a shot through the others legs, using him as a screen, preventing the goalie from seeing the puck. The shot found the twine, giving Roseau a 2 goal lead and they would hold on to win 4-2, returning to the Kellogg Cup Final.
Minneapolis Millers vs South St. Paul Mavericks
Not one, not two, not three, but four overtimes were what was needed in this TCHL Original 10 matchup. It was a hard fought battle from both sides and the score reflected that, tied 2-2 at the end of regulation. We went to overtime and neither side would budge. This happened twice more, sending us to our fourth overtime period. The Millers and Mavs had already played the equivalent of 2 full games and the winner was yet to be decided. The clock read 1:14 as the puck was dropped, but the stands were just as packed as they were at the opening face off. Both teams were exhausted and it showed, with both teams beginning to look sluggish and make mistakes. One such mistake turned out to cost the Millers their season. The Mavericks were on the attack, but Minneapolis had gained possession and began to break out of their zone. The puck was passed to a winger out by the blue line, but it was intercepted by a SSP defenceman, holding it in the zone with numbers. He walked in, firing a shot hard and low that was tipped by a teammate wide open in front of the goal, beating the goalie under the arm and sending the Mavericks to their first Kellogg Cup Final in 29 years!
Will the Stars bring the cup back to Roseau? Or will South St. Paul break the drought?
Let me know what you think, comments are appreciated!

Well this is why I’m an accountant and not a fictional sports analyst... good for the Mavs though!

Due to their recent success and the look of their uniforms I've decided that the Millers will be the team I root for. If no one has already asked for one, could I have a Millers sig if at all possible?

Four overtimes? Dang! Congrats to the Mavs. I hope they have enough left in the tank for the Stars though.

1970 Kellogg Cup Final
1st Period
ROS - 2
SSP - 0
It was a sold out house at the Met Center as Roseau and South St. Paul squared off in the final game of the season. Things started exactly as the Stars drew it up, with Roseau capitalizing on the quick turn around for South St. Paul, scoring twice in the opening period and outshooting the Mavs 14-5.
2nd Period
ROS - 3
SSP - 0
The Stars continued to outplay SSP in the second, with Broten capitalizing on a powerplay to give Roseau a commanding 3 goal lead. Roseau nearly made their lead even larger, scoring a goal just after the horn sounded, South St. Paul was literally saved by the bell.
3rd Period
ROS - 4
SSP - 1
South St. Paul managed to block a shot in their zone, sending them on a 2 on 0 which they easily scored on, giving them a bit of hope of a comeback. The Green Army was undeterred, breaking into "Lets Go Stars" chants throughout the arena. South St. Paul supporters responded with chants of their own, but the Mavericks seemed to have run out of gas, allowing Roseau to set up as if they were on the powerplay, resulting in a tap in goal, all but securing the win for the Stars. The final horn sounded and the Stars hopped the boards, swarming their goalie in celebration. The Roseau Stars are your 1970 Kellogg Cup Champions!
The Tschida Trophy was awarded to Roseau's Isaac Broten for his incredible breakout season, leading his Stars to their third Kellogg Cup.

Congrats to Roseau. Looks like the Diamonds will have to wait for their time to shine.
