Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

1980 Offseason Highlights

- 3 Expansion Teams

- 17 Teams adjusted their looks

- 7 Teams got new arenas
           - Anoka: The Warriors will now actually play in Anoka, moving into 1,500 seat Anoka Ice Arena
           - Inver Grove Heights: The Lions have a new den at the Veterans Memorial Community Center which can fit 2,500 fans
           - Mora: The Dalas will now play in a 500 seat metal barn, but at least Mora Ice Arena is indoors
           - Mound: Another team making the move indoors are the Marauders who will play at 800 seat Harold J. Pond Sports Center
           - Rosemount: The Wolfhounds are making history by not playing in an arena, but a dome. The Rosemount Sports Dome has seating for 1,000 for hockey and will also be used for Baseball and Football training
           - Shakopee: It's a new era in Six hockey as they head indoors to brand new Shakopee Ice Arena which has a capacity of 750
           - Winnipeg: Max Bell Centre is a brand new arena built on the campus of the University of Manitoba that seats 1,400. This is a drastic drop from the 10,000 the Monarchs had at Winnipeg Arena, but it will be sure to be sold out almost every game and is expected to be one of the hardest places for visitors to play

- 5 New Mascots

- 3 New Rivalry Trophies

- 3 Numbers Retired

 - Mandatory Helmets in
           - Blue Earth
           - North Metro
           - South Metro
           - Valley

Get ready, tomorrow is going to be a busy day8.5.1

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Retired Numbers

The Rochester Mustangs have decided to retire number 14, worn by RW "Mr. Mustang" Ryan Pohl who helped the Stangs dominate the Valley in the 50s and 60s. Pohl played from 1949 to 1965 before hanging up the skates after losing in the 1965 Great Eight

Roseau also decided to honor some former greats, retiring numbers 3 and 9. Perhaps the most famous of any Star player is Matt "Boomer" Baumgartner who was the face of Roseau in their early years. Boomer helped lead the Stars to 5 NLHL titles and 1 Kellogg Cup as a center before retiring and going behind the bench where he has coached ever since, leading Roseau to 5 more league titles, 8 Super Series, and 2 Kellogg Cups. The Stars also decided to honor William Soosi, 1963 Tschida Trophy winner and Kellogg Cup champion who was signed by the Minnesota North Stars when they joined the NHL in 1967.
