Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Up in the Northland, the Baudette Walleye added a wordmark logo.

The Walleye also altered their uniforms, simplifying their look to a simple chest stripe with a stripe along the arms as well. The biggest change comes on the away uniform where the teams new wordmark replaces the Walleye logo. A chest number is also added.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Coming off another successful season, the Brainerd Lumberjacks have decided that it is time for an update. This is the first time the Lumberjacks have adjusted their identity. The Jacks updated their logo, sharpening the edges of the axe. They also decided to retire the "Lumber-Jacks" script in favor of a new "Jacks" script with an axe making the top of the J.

The uniforms keep the same general idea of their classic jerseys, but make some changes. The new "Jacks" script is on the front of the sweaters with the new Axe on the shoulders. The number font has been updated and added to the sleeves. The striping is also changed on the sleeves with the bottom stripe extending all the way to the end of the sleeve.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Our final identity change comes from none other than Sauk Rapids. The Bulldogs just can't seem to find a look and stick with it, making yet another change. The Dogs have decided to switch up their color scheme, dropping the multiple shades of purple in favor of a simple purple, black and white color scheme. They kept the same logo, but updated it in the new colors.

The Bulldogs completely revamped their uniforms, using a new stripe style. The home jersey remains purple, and the number font is the same, but besides that these new uniforms are completely new for Sauk Rapids.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Soudan is back from the dead! The second oldest team in MAHL history is being revived for the 1972/73 season. Combining with their neighbors from Tower, the Tower-Soudan Miners are set to rejoin the Iron Range Hockey League and are adopting the history of the first Soudan Miners. The Miners will play their home games at 750 seat Tower Civic Arena, the same arena they played in from 1956-1963.

The Miners introduced a new logo based heavily off their old oval S. The new logo retains the oval shape and colors of the old logo but is now an intersecting TS with Tower-Soudan on the bottom.

The Miners decided to retain their classic stripe style with a few adjustments to the stripe thicknesses. The new uniforms have numbers on the chest, laces under the collar, and black shoulders on the away jersey.

The Miners also introduced a mascot by the name of Ol' Willie

With the Miners returning, the Miners Hard Hat Trophy is coming out of retirement.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Ooooh shoot! Welcome back Soudan!

Huge improvement for the Bulldogs adding black. It's a much fiercer look for them.

The Lumberjacks new duds look amazing. I love the new Jacks wordmark, as I always felt the old one looked like it said "Lumberdacks". Really a big fan of this update!

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Coleraine is a small town of just over 1,000 bordering Grand Rapids. Despite its size, Coleraine is hockey crazy with the local high school Greenway reaching the State High School hockey tournament 6 times. The Trout will be joining the Iron Range Hockey League where a natural rivalry with the Moose is almost certain. They will call Hodgins-Berardo Arena home, a rink that actually seats 2,200, a larger capacity than there are people in Coleraine.

They will be called the "Trout" referring to Brook Trout which are plentiful in the area. The team is being referred to by some locals as the "Brookies". Their logo is a roundel with a Trout tail cutting in, forming a C for Coleraine with "Trout" vertically in the left side of the C. Their colors are Forest Green, "Itasca Blue", and Gold.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Keewatin (Key-wah-tin) is a town of just under 1,500 located between Coleraine and Hibbing. Despite having less hockey history than their neighbors, hockey is still king in Keewatin with locals playing it on frozen ponds for generations. The Kellys will play their home games in the 750 seat Keewatin Ice Garden.

The team will be called the "Kellys" referring to the teams primary color of kelly green. The Kellys have a very simple, yet classic identity. Their logo is a shield with a K for Keewatin inside and their colors are kelly green and white.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

The final expansion team in the Iron Range comes from Mountain Iron. Mountain Iron is a town in the heart of the Iron Range, bordering Virginia and Eveleth. The Cougars will play their home games at the 2,000 seat Miners Memorial Arena, sharing a home with Virginia.

They will be called the "Cougars" named after the species of big cat native to the area, as well as playing on the towns name of Mountain Iron with Cougars being another name for Mountain Lions. Their colors are black and gold and their logo is an intersected MI the towns initials.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Our final expansion team of the 1972/73 season comes from the Blue Earth Hockey League. Owatonna (Oh-uh-tah-nuh) is one of the larger cities in the southern part of the state with a population of over 15,000. The Owls will call 1,400 capacity Four Seasons Centre home.

They will be called the "Owls" named after the species of predatory bird as well as the alliteration. Their logo is an Owl head and their secondary logo is an O for Owatonna. Their colors are navy and yellow.

Let me know what you think, comments are appreciated!
