1980 Week 2 Game of the Week!

This week was the only week this season without any slated ranked matchups, but it did feature one significant upset.
The Louisville State Colonels are a team with no real expectations coming into the season. Coming off a losing season where the team went 2-10, where they fired both the coach and offensive coordinator, and overall disappointed their fanbase, you couldn't of expected much. Their new coach that they hired was the interim that coached the team's last game of the season last year, who kept the Colonels in a close match with their rivals, Kentucky Commonwealth, for most of the first 3 quarters before derailing in the fourth. Hopes were high he might be able to turn it around, but nothing was really expected coming into their first game this season. Their opponent was also coming off a disappointing season last year, but for other reasons. The Houston State Mustangs were one of the more promising teams out of the Texarkana Conference last year. They were loaded with upperclass talent and a quarterback that was coming off of an injury ridden sophomore season. However, the hype was quickly vanquished, as the team went on to lose their first 3 games. But as soon as the media turned their eyes away from the Mustangs, they quickly started living up to the potential. By the end of the season they were riding a 5 game winning streak and were back in the top 20. They barely made a bowl game where they faced and beat a mean New Orleans State team riding out the last season of their all-american quarterback. This resulted in a split fanbase as many were disappointed that the team had only started playing so well in the second half of the season, but others said it waivered promise for this season. It was all up to this game to decide the fate of these two programs.
As we get into the first quarter it seemed as though this would be a back and forth fight. Houston State came out swinging and put up a decisive touchdown within the

1980 Week 1 Game of the Week!

Coming into the first official week of the 1980 season, we only had a handful of the top 20 teams actually playing, with one match in particular gaining immense national attention; a rivalry matchup between the 6th ranked East Texas Lonestars, traveling to Dallas, Texas to take on the 10th ranked Texas Baptist Stallions. Both teams were coming off a season in which they both finished the season in the top 15 teams in the nation, Texas Baptist in particular finishing last season at 6th, leading to the program's first ever Harvest Bowl appearance, facing off against the Bell Eagles. They would go onto lose that game in a close match, 21-17, but that has only inspired this year's team to do better. Led by QB Ty Hendersmith, and the best OL in the country, both Hendersmith and the Stallions are looking to start this season off with a bang with a win against their rivals! On the other side of the field stands East Texas University, harkening from an hour down the road, in Fort Worth, Texas. The Lonestars are coming into this game as the higher ranked team, but still considered an underdog. A much younger team then their counterparts, the star of this team is actually one of their wide receivers; Larry Aire. He's a sophomore who ended up winning both the Gifford Award for most valuable wide receiver in the nation, and the Alex Carr Trophy for most valuable freshman of the year, last season as an 18 year old. He's hyped up as one of the best players in the nation and is part of the reason the Lonestars have clocked in so high on the opening week's rankings. 
As the captains head to the center of the field for the coin flip, some words were exchanged before being broken up by the referees, evidence of the tension between these two rivals on this year's opening game. The design on Southeastern's helmets are similar to that of Bell's, or Michigan irl. It's modeled after Dartmouth's helmet and is just supposed to represent an old school leather helmet design the program had.

Anyways, hello there stranger! You've probably heard of me, or at least of my baby of a fantasy league; the National Football Association, or the NFA, for short, and that's all you really need to know to enjoy this upcoming project! While I might've kind of left the NFA to be permanently stuck in the year 1976, (sorry about that lol), I won't be leaving the universe. After a while of sitting around, burnt out from the NFA, but still interested in working in the NFA's universe, I decided to come upon a project idea! Today I will be posting the beginning of a short series I will be trying to post regularly til its end, however we both know that's likely to not be what happens. This little series will be a more proper introduction into the collegiate football environment of the universe, and a short analysis that will probably leave most people wanting more, well hopefully.

I will be delving solely into the 1980 season for this series. I will be posting a short recap of every week, until we reach the end of the 16 week season, highlighting one game in specific that will be the designated "Game of the Week." Think of it as a predecessor to this universe's College Football Gameday. Once we reach the end of the season I will go in detail and describe the 6 major bowl games and give a basic recap over the remaining minor bowl games. The National Championship is played after the bowl games in this universe, a bit more similar to the CFP era of modern college football. But we will get more into the details as we go.
