“State of the League After Year Two”
August 5, 2021
Stamford, CT - The league has become profitable in year 2. The league as a whole made $243M against expenditures of $146M for a profit of $97M. The owners themselves individually are still in the red as expected due to the league buy-in of $10M but all ownership groups seem encouraged for the future of the league.
The report states that the league is 25% owned by Alpha Entertainment LLC(McMahon), 20% Legendary Field Exhibitions LLC(Ebersol), 12.5% Monumental Sports and Entertainment LLC(Leonsis), 12.5% for Trifecta Sports and Entertainment LLC(Randolph Hearst), 6% Dundon Capital Partners Sports and Entertainment LLC(Dundon), 6% Memphis Sports LLC(Pera), 6% Cuban Sports and Entertainment LLC(Cuban), 6% Microsoft Legacy Sports LLC(Ballmer), and 6% Park Lane Sports and Entertainment LLC(Kline).
Expenditures totaled $146M for the 2020 season. Costs consisted of $64M from player contracts, $8M in Quarterback Contracts, $40M in front office/coaching contracts, $16M in stadium leases, $16M in traveling expenses, 500k on uniforms, 200k on practice equipment, and 500k on marketing.
The league did receive $50M from TV contracts, $14M from Monumental Sports and Entertainment LLC, $14M from Trifecta Sports and Entertainment LLC, $17.5 from Dundon Capital Partners Sports and Entertainment LLC, $17.5M from Memphis Sports LLC, $17.5M from Cuban Sports and Entertainment LLC, $17.5M from Microsoft Legacy Sports LLC, $17.5M from Park Lane Sports and Entertainment LLC, $47.5M in ticket sales, and $30M in merchandise.
League President Jeffery Pollack said the XFL is showing that football can be successful in the spring, and that the league wanted to show their gratitude towards the players that have made this league possible, so a $10k bonus check would be going out to every single player in the league, and that the salary cap would be going up league wide from $4M a team to $6M that would result in each player getting a salary bump from $82k to $125k for the 2022 season. He also expects another big salary jump next off-season after the XFL finishes the current TV contract. The networks are "very pleased with our ratings, and are expecting to expand their offer to our ever expanding league."
“The Sports Network of Canada Jumps on the XFL”
August 17, 2021
Stamford, CT - The Sports Network(TSN) is the leading sports network throughout Canada and has been expressing interest in adding XFL games to their programming since they ended their relationship with the CFL earlier this summer. TSN will be airing all of the Toronto Phantoms and Montreal Monarchs games across their networks weekly. The network signed a $15M per year two year deal with the league.
TSN choosing the XFL over the CFL will be very damaging for the league above the border. The CFL has already cut salaries across the league, and without any TV money coming in, the league could be in real danger.
