You will possibly notice something familiar about Team Iceland. I deemed it acceptable because well, D2! 

It is time for the Knockout Round of the AltHL World Cup of Hockey.

I wanted to thank everyone who worked so hard on getting submissions in for this fun design challenge. I know the community appreciated it. 

With that said, we have chopped down the 40 submissions down to 16. The 10 group champions are ranked 1-10 in order of their overall rating score. The six wildcards are the best of the remaining countries. Group C was most definitely the Group of Death. All of the nations from Group C made the knockout round. That means that they make up 1/4 of the remaining 16 and 1/2 of the wildcard teams. 

For the knockout round we are forgetting overall ratings and just going with majority rules. The round of 16 will last only one day! With the round of 8 beginning tomorrow at this time (who needs the Super Bowl!). The Medal Round will follow with our four remaining teams at week's end.

Thank you to everyone for participating. Latvia takes home the gold. Leading the tournament from wire to wire. They came out of the challenging Group C at the one-seed. They moved through the tournament to ultimately win the Gold Medal. 

We'll do more of these contests in the future. They build out our Alt Universe more and more.
