Several men gathered at the league office buildings today to make an announcement. The men were current NVF Commissioner Hubert Gotti, Pittsburgh Challengers owner and chairman of the Owners Association Andrew Carnegie, and a business associate of Carnegie’s named Henry Clay Frick. The men were making the announcement that Frick has been nominated by Carnegie to become the second Commissioner of the NVF, beginning with the 1893 season. A confirmation hearing vote by all owners will be held on March 18th, the day before the Title Match. In order to be confirmed league bylaws state that Frick must receive a simple majority of owners votes, that means he needs 5. Frick announced he will accept the job on a year-to-year basis. He has no intention of signing a long-term contract. The present Commissioner, Hubert Gotti, had of course already announced he intends to return to the life of coaching next season.
