Re: XFL 2020

Gotta say I am impressed so far.  You clearly put in a lot of research on this.  Your rosters are far more realistic than mine. Hoping this goes forward in the same way.  Are you planning on doing a week by week simulation of games or more of a season by season history?  I am working on setting up Madden 19 (I did not buy 20) to allow me to simulate for the FFL, but I can already feel myself losing steam on that premise because Madden is so clunky for these types of simulations (fantasy leagues of fewer than 32 teams).

I actually will be doing week by week simulations using my Madden 20. It’s not a perfect system as my rosters aren’t 100% accurate as some of these players aren’t on madden but it’s close. I’ll also do some manipulation to adjust to some storylines I want to throw in. It was a complete pain to adjust the madden rosters to make this work, I wasn’t real happy with myself yesterday because of this decision. I’m also hoping the mods on this website will loosen their grip on allowing me to use AAF logos and Arena logos so I can make weekly game of the week and standings graphics.

“Teams Begin to Mobilize”

November 2, 2019

Frisco, TX - Assistant Commissioner Brian Woods proclaims the league's first off-season as a success with all 12 teams about to begin training camp, "Summer tryouts saw around 1200 guys show up, and I believe the 600 guys selected two weeks ago give us a real chance at giving the fans what they want to see."

Woods then also released a list of 120 additional players that have signed on to XFL2, the traveling developmental practice squad for the league.  He announced that these players would be spread out amongst the three XFL2 teams; the Las Vegas Hughes, Austin Generals and the Hudson Valley Fort.  These three teams would not only be playing against each other every weekend of the season down at The Ford Center in Frisco, Texas, but they would also be playing against a team of international players as Woods announced the launch of the International Player Development Program.  "This program has the mission to find the most talented guys from around the world, including Canada, Japan, Germany and Mexico."

Some of the players listed as signing with XFL2 are QBs Kyle Lauletta, Brett Rypien, Clayton Thorson and Taylor Heinicke, RBs Marcus Murphy, Paul Perkins, Mark Walton and Kapri Bibbs, and WRs ArDarius Stewart, DeMarkus Lodge, Carlos Henderson and Justice Liggins.

“Arena League Folds Bringing Big Money to the XFL”

December 16, 2019

Baltimore, MD - For the first time since the team announcements were made, XFL majority Owner Vince McMahon made a league announcement appearance, and he had two interesting faces by his side; Ted Leonsis, and George Randolph Hearst III.

On November 7, 2019 the Arena Football League filed for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy and fully ceased operations citing a lack of capital.  McMahon announced, We(Alpha Entertainment LLC) took full advantage of the opportunity and purchased all equipment and trademarks" owned by the league including that of the Columbus Destroyers, Tampa Bay Storm, Cleveland Gladiators, Pittsburgh Power and a few others.

However, the league did not own the rights to five of the six teams from the 2019 season.  Here, is where Ted Leonsis and George Randolph Hearst III enter the picture.

Ted Leonsis and Monumental Sports and Entertainment LLC, the current owner of the NBA's Washington Wizards and the NHL's Washington Capitols, along with the Arena League's Washington Valor and Baltimore Brigade announced that he would be joining the XFL with the purchase of the league's Washington DC Defenders' franchise for $10M.  This investment was made with the understanding that he would also be bringing a 2021 XFL expansion franchise to Baltimore, making it a $41M two year investment into the league.

George Randolph Hearst and Trifecta Sports and Entertainment LLC, the owner of the Arena League's Philadelphia Soul, Atlantic City Blackjacks and Albany Empire, then announced that he also would be joining the XFL with the $10M purchase of the New York Guardians' franchise.

When asked if he would also be purchasing an expansion team like his friend, Leonsis, Hearst responded with a smile and said, "That discussion will be taking place during this upcoming season, but I think Philadelpha would love an XFL team."

“Outlaws Outlast LA as Week 1 Ends”

February 11, 2020

https://i.imgur.com/721PI4Y.jpg

Los Angeles, CA - The XFL got exactly what they wanted from their Week 1 games, especially their headliner of the Las Vegas Outlaws vs the Los Angeles Xtreme.  The league had Tommy Maddox and Rod Smart as honorary captains for the coin toss and it was the perfect amount of nostalgia to get the crowd in the game from the get go.  Johnny Manziel got off to perfect start in the first quarter running June Jone's wide open offense with his two touchdown passes to Cam Phillips to give the Outlaws a 14-0 lead after one.  However, the Xtreme narrowed the gap to 14-6 by halftime.  In the late parts of the 3rd quarter, nursing a 14-9 lead, Johnny Manziel forced a throw into coverage that Xtreme DB TJ McDonald intercepted and returned for a touchdown making the game 15-14.  Manziel then fired back and led the Outlaws down the field, ending the drive with a Nick Truesdell touchdown catch putting the Outlaws back up 21-15.  Connor Cook then hit Tre McBride in stride for an 67 yard touchdown catch to give the Xtreme a 22-21 lead with 3:13 left.  But Manziel was not to be denied on this night, he passed for 44 yards and scrambled for another 31 including a QB sneak to give the Outlaws the 27-22 victory in front of the 22,679 Xtreme fans in Los Angeles.

“XFL Wins Canadian Football League's Free Agency”

February 12, 2020

Stamford, CT - The Canadian Football League's Free Agency began on February 11 and the XFL struck a deal with a few of the league's top prospects.  XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck said that the XFL would not negotiate with CFL players currently under contract with the established league, but "free agents are a different story.  Those players are allowed to sign with the NFL at this time, so the XFL is also open."

The average CFL contract is 96k compared to the 82k of the non-franchise XFL player, but the appeal of returning to the United States and playing on prime time television was too much for some players.

The XFL signed 2019 CFL Champion QB Chris Streveler, 2016 Rookie of the Year WR Davaris Daniels, LB Larry Dean, OL Derek Dennis, DL Micah Johnson, Clayon Laing and Dylan Wynn, WRs SJ Green and Derel Walker, and DB Ciante Evans.

All of the signings would spend Week 2 in XFL2 and then hit waivers on February 18th.

“Texas Throwdown: Round 1 goes to Dallas”

February 25, 2020

https://i.imgur.com/KQFiDv6.jpg

Houston, TX - Landry Jones made his XFL debut and outdueled Brock Osweiler down in Houston in front of the 23,004 Roughnecks fans.  After a slow start to the game that led to a 6-3 Houston halftime lead, both Quarterbacks shook off the rust in the 3rd Quarter and led three touchdown drives a piece making the score 27-26 Roughnecks going into the 4th and the fireworks didn't stop there.  Landry Jones hit newly acquired Davaris Daniels down the sideline for 64 yards on the first play of the final quarter making it 34-27.  Osweiler returned the favor and led a scoring drive of his own ending with an Alfred Blue touchdown plunge and the score being 34-34.  Renegades Head Coach Bob Stoops looking for his first XFL win decided to slow down the game and rode Cameron Artis-Payne the next drive which turned out to be a good idea and Artis-Payne finished the drive with a 13 yard touchdown carry giving Dallas a 40-34 lead.  Now with not much time left on the clock, Osweiler had to take chances down the field and after two big completions, he was sacked and stripped by LB Tim Williams ending the game.

“Mallet vs Manziel. Undefeated vs Undefeated No More”

March 3, 2020

https://i.imgur.com/8JyeZ7w.jpg

St. Louis, MO - The undefeated Stallions versus the undefeated Outlaws didn't live up to the hype as Johnny Manziel looked more like the CFL flop than the guy he was during the three first weeks of the XFL season.  After three quarters of not doing much of anything offense, Manziel forced the issue and threw the game sealing pick six to DB David Amerson that also led to him going on a tirade on the sideline that ended up with him getting in the face of not only his teammate WR Nick Holley but also of his offensive coordinator Chris Miller's.  With just minutes left in the game, you could see Head Coach June Jones communicating with Manziel on the sideline as backup QB PJ Walker led the Outlaws to their only touchdown drive of the game and the league's first ever three point extra point conversion.  The Stallions won the game 23-9 but the Outlaws stole the headlines.
