Re: XFL 2020

“2022 XFL Rookie Draft is Complete!”

October 22, 2021

New York, NY - The twenty XFL teams sent representatives to New York to complete their rosters.  The XFL uses their Rookie draft to mostly draft players from their XFL2 developmental league.  The Rookie Draft consists of two rounds. The rookies consist of the undrafted guys from the NFL who also didn't make a practice squad so those players are more than likely headed to the XFL2 for the season.  Highlights from the first ever XFL Rookie Draft are:

San Antonio Commanders - WR Robert Foster
Dallas Renegades - QB Cooper Rush and WRs Adonis Jennings and Kaelin Clay
Seattle Dragons - WR Deon Cain
Orlando Predators - RB Mark Walton
Houston Roughnecks - WR Kolby Listenbee
Philadelphia Soul - RB Jeremy McNichols
Tampa Bay Storm - RB Daniel Lasco and WRs Max McCaffery and Ray-Ray McCloud

“Andrew Luck Comes Out of Retirement!”

November 2, 2021

Dallas, TX - Andrew Luck announced this morning that he was ending his football retirement and he wanted to come play in his father's football league, the XFL!  Luck said he would be signing with the Dallas Renegades because he wanted to play for Bob Stoops.

Three other NFL veterans signing with XFL teams this morning was lost in the Luck News scuttlebutt.  The Las Vegas Outlaws signed former UCLA Bruin and Green Bay Packer QB Brett Hundley while the Memphis Express signed former Iowa Hawkeye and San Francisco 49ers' CJ Beathard.  Martavis Bryant also made his return to the league after spending last season back in the NFL by returning to the San Diego Fleet.

“Players Return to the Practice Field!”

December 2, 2021

Stamford, CT - XFL teams begins practice next week but they're not the only teams that are about to begin practice.  The XFL2's Hudson Valley Fort, Austin Generals and Las Vegas Hughes will also begin practicing.  Those roster invites were sent out late last week and include QBs Steven Montez, Anthony Gordon, Shea Patterson, Kelly Bryant, Mason Fine, and Khalil Tate, RBs Marcus Murphy, Elijah Hood, Elijah Holyfield, Russel Shell and James Robinson, WRs Jamal Custis, Malachi Dupre, Lawrence Cager, Marquez Callaway, Juwan Johnson, Jeff Thomas, and Josh Hammond, TEs Hunter Bryant and Thaddeus Moss, LB Joe Bachie, Ks Rodrigo Blankenship, JJ Molson, Cooper Rothe and Dominik Eberle.

“New Looks Just in Time for Christmas”

December 15, 2021

Stamford, CT - Three more of the XFL teams signed uniform deals with Under Armour just in time for Christmas shopping for their fans.  The Philadelphia Soul, Washington Valor and Orlando Predators all landed new uniforms for the 2022 seasons.

All three uniforms were designed by my friend WideRight again.  He does great work and deserves all the credit for all of these designs.  Check out his work over at board.sportslogos.net.  He's one of the best designers around.

Re: XFL 2020

“NCAA Rule Challenged by XFL”

January 15, 2022

Tampa Bay, FL - For the first time since West Virginia safety Kenny Robinson signed with the St. Louis Stallions back in 2019, an active NCAA football player has signed with the league.  Former 5 star, #2 RB and #16 overall player in the nation coming out of High School, and current TCU sophomore Running Back Zachary Evans has signed with the Tampa Bay Storm.  Evans started as a True Freshmen in 2020 and as a sophomore in 2021 for TCU but after Horned Frogs finished the season 5-7 and without a bowl game appearance, Evans entered the transfer portal.

However, instead of transferring to another program, and not being NFL Draft eligible until the 2023 NFL Draft, Evans has now signed a professional contract with the XFL.  Zach will be making 125k this season and an estimated 175k next season playing for the Storm.  Evans stated, "Kenny Robinson kind of set the precedent for me two years ago.  He used his time in the XFL to make money, not go to class, and launch his NFL career when he got drafted by the (Carolina) Panthers.  And I'm just trying to take that step another level and try to make the NFL change their eligibility rules, something Maurice Clarett wasn't able to do twenty years ago."

Evans also stated, "I'm the first underclassmen ready to challenge this rule, but I won't be the last."  And Evans was right.  Less than a week later, Maryland sophomore WR Rakim Jarrett also announced that he would be signing with the XFL's Baltimore Brigade after his Maryland Terrapins also finished 5-7 and didn't receive a bowl game invitation.  Jarrett was also a former 5 star recruit, who ranked as the #4 WR and #26 overall player in the 2020 recruiting class.  Jarrett started his first two seasons at Maryland.

Now, don't expect many others to follow suite.  The success of these two youngsters may set the precedent for future defections from NCAA programs, but most athletes will still try to use the premier programs of the NCAA to launch their future careers.

“XFL Not Done with NCAA Yet”

January 27, 2022

Norman, OK - After the University of Oklahoma picked up their first playoff win in the College Football Playoff against the University of Georgia, they fell just short in the National Championship against Ohio State University.  Star Quarterback Spencer Rattler, a Redshirt Sophomore, announced that he would be returning to Norman to lead the Sooners to a National Championship despite being projected as a high first round pick.

However, that meant his backup, Caleb Williams, the former 5 star recruit who was ranked as the #1 QB and #4 overall player in his 2021 recruiting class would have to spend another year sitting the bench behind Rattler.  Williams had no intentions of doing that when he signed with Oklahoma in February of 2021, so this morning he announced that he signed a three-year $3M contract with the Washington Valor.  Williams starred at Gonzaga High School right in Washington, DC.

Williams will compete with incumbent starter, Cardale Jones to be the starter for the Valor.  Williams intends to enter the 2024 NFL Draft.

That’s a really nice logo but I don’t know how I feel about using it, as it’s an active team. I’ve tried to stay away from doing that so far. I really wanted to take the real life XFL’s Battlehawks logo and make it into the London Crusaders but that’s not allowed. Oh well. XFL expansion into Europe is still a few years away anyhow here.

Yeah I hope so. Btw if any of you have any ideas for players and coaches go ahead and throw them out there as well. The more this league expands the harder that becomes.

Re: XFL 2020

“Monarchs Crowned Kings of XFL Canada After Week 1”

February 15, 2022
Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - TSN got a perfect start into their XFL foray with this shootout.  Masoli led the Monarchs down the field on the first possession that ended with a 26 yard TD pass to TE AJ Derby.  After a short Phantom possession, Monarch Chuba Hubbard took his first XFL carry 89 yards for a touchdown.  Mariota then responded for his first career XFL TD pass when he hit Michael Floyd for the score.  The Monarchs ended the first with a Field Goal and the 17-7 lead.  The Phantoms then got a 16 yard TD run from Charles Sims to start the 2nd quarter.  After another Monarch Field Goal, Toronto scored again on the ground with a Charles Sims 9 yard scamper.  James Wilder responded for the Monarchs with a two yard plunge and after a Phantom fumble, the Monarchs added an additional Field Goal for the halftime score of 30-21.  Karlos Williams then got the 2nd half scoring started with his own 60 yard touchdown run.  Lewis Ward then added his 4th FG for the Monarchs, and the score was 33-28 at the end of three.  Karlos Williams then found his second score of the game to give his Phantoms their first ever lead, 34-33.  Lewis Ward then kicked his 5th FG of the afternoon.  After a 4th down attempt failed for Toronto, Ward set the XFL record for Field Goals in a game with his 6th successful attempt on the day.
