Re: The Complete History of Hockey in Ostrovia

1920 OLYMPICS

Ice hockey was introduced to the Olympic Games at the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp. The islands of Ostrovia were represented by all-star teams from Ostrovia, Sælø, and Jotunmark. Ostrovia did quite well winning Silver after being knocked out by Canada.

Re: The Complete History of Hockey in Ostrovia

Whoa, didn't realize there were actually 3 leagues here!  Very ambitious!

As for favorites, for the Jotunmark League, I'd say the Jotunheim Giants (? do I have that right) are probably my favorites, as I kinda like the combo of brown and yellow.  Curious to see how the new teams look, my choice might change.  For the Saelo league, I'd say the Osterhavn Shipwrights are easily my pick (I promise I'm not just picking the league winners, haha).  Truthfully, the Shipwrights are my favorite look of out any of teams in the 3 leagues!

Speaking of which, I'm not sure if you just started the league or if your just catching up with an old project, but are all 3 leagues staying independent?

Also, side note, I absolutely love the Jotunmark national jerseys!  So simple and effective, I would have liked to see the numbers in orange instead of green, but otherwise these are perfect!

Really great work here!

Thanks for the feedback. They will be independent, but the stories will be intertwined soon here! Stay tuned.

Re: The Complete History of Hockey in Ostrovia

1920-21 OSTROVIA

National Happenings
King: Vladimir III
Prime Minister: Georgi Romashkov (Conservative Party)
Population: 4,690,000

Khokkeynaya Liga Koroly
King's Cup Champions: Koroli Khirov
League MVP: Anatoly Sharov, Koroli Khirov
Top Scorer: Grigory Timofeyev, Koroli Khirov

Standings:
1. Koroli Khirov - 16-8
2. Atletika Kamezan - 15-9
3. Matrosy Mezhdupovets - 10-14
4. Shakhtery Gorabinsk - 7-17

Koroli Khirov
The 1920-21 Koroli Khirov season saw the emergence of Grigory Timofeyev as the club's leading scorer with 29 goals and 22 assists for 51 points which was good enough to win the league's scoring title. Towards the end of the season he was challenged for his top line right wing position by Mikhail Garin who notched 23 goals of his own while playing solidly in both ends of the ice. Goaltender Anatoly Sharov stole more than his fair share of games earning his recognition as league MVP.

Atletika Kamezan
Atletika Kamezan fell off a little in scoring from the previous year, but more than made up for it defensively thanks to the shutdown pair of Andrei Kutepov and Kodiak Mikhailov. Vladislav Matveyev again led the club in scoring but was unable to match his 1919-20 heroics. Dmitri Kryukov was excellent in goal backed up by promising Finnish rookie Aaro Honkala. The club finished the season with a loss to Koroli Khirov cementing a respectable second place finish.

Matrosy Mezhdupovets
Despite a strong defense led by Ivan Nikitin and goaltender Yaromir Titov, Matrosy Mezhdupovets were unable to get much in the way of scoring and fell to a 10-14 record. Several players retired at the end of the 1920-21 season leading to a rebuild. Matrosy Mezhdupovets wore new sweaters for the 1920-21 season.

Shakhtery Gorabinsk
During the 1920 offseason, Shakhtery Gorabinsk made some major moves, but the new additions weren't as effective as they could have been. Goaltender Nestor Yeltsin who was picked up from Matrosy Mezhdupovets was shaky at best, but helped develop Vladimir Tarasov into a starter in the eyes of head coach Valerian Golubov. Scoring was led by left winger Misha Bogolyubov.

Re: The Complete History of Hockey in Ostrovia

1920-21 JOTUNMARK

National Happenings
Prime Minister: Agnar Halldórsson (Independent)
Population: 8,000,000

Jotunmark Íshokkídeildin
Jotun Cup Champions: Fljotsbork Tröll
League MVP: Skirnir Steinbergursson, Fljotsbork Tröll
Top Scorer: Bjalfi Aslaksson, Jotunheim Jotnar

Standings:
1. Jotunheim Jotnar - 15-7-2
2. Fljotsbork Tröll - 13-9-2
3. Skjalfandi Ísbirnir - 13-11-0
4. Lundarbrekka Hákarlar - 8-13-3
5. Lon Grænu - 6-15-3

Jotunheim Jotnar
The Jotunheim Jotnar finished first again in the Jotunmark Íshokkídeildin with an impressive 15-7-2 record, but lost in the championship match to the Fljotsbork Tröll. Bjalfi Aslaksson again led the league in scoring helped greatly by his linemates Sigbjørn Eydisson and Kristbergur Akerström. Team captian Skapti Eymundursson was a little slower at 41, but still did well on the top defensive pairing with Christian Lykke. Onäm Ruud was good in net again, however his backup Marius Fjoelvarsson did poorly in his few appearances.

Fljotsbork Tröll
In their first season in the Jotunmark Íshokkídeildin, the Fljotsbork Tröll (Trolls) rode the goaltending tandem of Börje Lindahl and Iver Hallsson to a decent 13-9-2 record and a Jotun Cup Championship. Scoring was led by league MVP Skirnir Steinbergursson who netted game winning goals in the last 4 straight games of the season as well as the Jotun Cup Championship game.

Skjalfandi Ísbirnir
After finishing the 1919-20 season dead even, the Ísbirnir finished the season with a winning record thanks in part to the scoring of aging veteran Tyrfingur Cýrusarson (37) who centered the top line with much younger Yngvar Hjarnarsson (23) and Kjói Gygjarsson (19). The defense, led by Eggthor Ottarsson was a lot better helping goalie Kusi Broddisson stop a lot more pucks than the previous year.

Lundarbrekka Hákarlar
Named for the scourge of Lundarbrekka Bay, the Lundarbrekka Hákarlar (Sharks) managed to turn things around a bit after losing 10 straight games to begin the season. Scoring was led by winger Valdimar Shameel and center Kris Ríkarthsson who combined for 20 goals each on the top line. The top defensive pairing of Haki Urtharsson and Hildimundur Maccoby was notorious for racking up penalty minutes throughout the year getting into full brawls with their new rivals, the Lon Grænu. Goaltending duties were split between 18 year old Dann Manischewitz and 19 year old Agnar Skar.

Lon Grænu
The Lon Grænu had another disappointing season despite respectable scoring from the top line of Bjartmar Axelsson, Amundi Eysteinsson, and Matz Gestetner. It seemed that the club was just (for the most part) too old and slow to compete. One bright point of the season though was rookie goalie Jader Fraenkel getting his first shutout of many.

Re: The Complete History of Hockey in Ostrovia

1920-21 SÆLØ

National Happenings
President: Henning Lundberg (Libertarian Party)
Population: 3,950,000

Sælø Ishockey Liga
Mester Kop Champions: Middehall Senatorer
League MVP: Håvard Grønkjær, Middehall Senatorer
Top Scorer: Bendik Kristensen, Middehall Senatorer

Standings:
1. Middehall Senatorer - 14-8-2
2. Østerhavn Skibsbygger - 12-11-1
3. Aukia Indfødte - 11-12-1
4. Saelsby Sæler - 8-14-2

Middehall Senatorer
The Senatorer had an excellent season finishing first in the league with a 14-8-2 record to win the Mester Kop. The top line of Håvard Grønkjær, Eirik Backer, and Bendik Kristensen was dominant with Grønkjær winning League MVP honors and Kristensen leading the league in scoring. Defenseman Kasper Nielsen helped out with scoring as well as helping shut down offenses. Ståle Salmarsson and Preben Mortensen split goaltending duties pretty evenly with Salmarsson getting more wins. The Senatorer got new sweaters just in time for the 1920-21 season.

Østerhavn Skibsbygger
The Østerhavn Skibsbygger took a step back after a dominant 1919-20 season due to injuries to goalie Holger Rohde. Backup Henrik Hansen stepped up the best he could, but he was unable to match Rohde's skill. Lone Zohore led the club in scoring missing the scoring title by only 2 points.

Aukia Indfødte
The Indfødte improved significantly over their 1919-20 season with Christopher Egilsson and Munamee Kuliktana tying for the team lead in scoring. Goalie Jørgen Reiten was a lot better than the previous season thanks in part to better defense led by the top pair of Gudmund Doessing and Peder Krohn-Dehli. The Indfødte had a handful of native Sikinigak players try out for head coach Jens Bergmann-Larsen at the end of the year, and look to make some big moves in the off season after making none the previous year.

Saelsby Sæler
The Sæler were again disappointing falling to an 8-14-2 record for last place in the Sælø Ishockey Liga. The top line of Jon Agger, Ernst Sturup, and Henning Enoksen were outmatched by all the other top lines, and at the end of the season, the owner Karl Hjalmarsen considered selling the club.

Re: The Complete History of Hockey in Ostrovia

Really like the looks of the giants. Can always count on you for a brown and gold combo that feels classic. Favorite has to be the basement dwelling seals. Black and gray is unique and a seal identity can go so many different ways.
