It's time to start getting ready for the new season of the AltBA! We're coming off a Refre5h that leaves every single team from last year looking fresh and new. The Honolulu Kahunas will look to defend the AltBA Championship, but to do that, we have to know: are you coming back or returning?
We're starting early because on this year's off-season voting includes a question regarding the schedule as well as the option to institute a one round rookie draft! Let's go through what that means.
- Based on feedback from last season, having the championship the last week of the NBA regular season led to many top players being held out to get them rested for the playoffs. The proposal is to shorten the regular season by 2 weeks.
- Once we know how many teams are going to be in the AltBA for the upcoming schedule, there will be a second vote that will be relating to the playoffs and how many teams make the playoffs. Without knowing how many teams there are, it's hard to get a good vote on that.
- As far as the one round rookie draft, this will be exactly what it sounds like and will be run the same as the AltFL's rookie draft. To keep the spirit of the NBA, if we choose this there will be no changes to the standard draft (it will remain reverse finish), but the Rookie Draft will have a lottery for all non-playoff teams, with the same odds as the NBA as shown here. The worst team from last year will be Team 1, second worst as Team 2, etc. Playoff teams will be at the end based on playoff finish. The odds are below showing where they'll be, with the top 4 picks under the lottery and the rest by record. I will go live on the Discord to share the lottery using wheelofnames.com.
So now, lets get at it with the 2025-26 AltBA Interest Form! The due date to fill this out will be Thursday, September 4th at 9pm Central time.

Alright, following the close of the interest sheet, I can announce that officially 11 of the 12 owners from last season will be returning, seeing the return of the Charlotte Flyers, Minnesota Giants, Boston Schooners, Detroit Mustangs, Vancouver Caribou, Philadelphia Gladiators, Los Angeles Olympians, New York Sentinels, Kansas City Marshals, Albuquerque Invaders, and defending champion Honolulu Kahunas, with the Washington Warbirds not returning.
We are also going to be welcoming two new teams for the upcoming season, as Sevsdast will be resuming ownership of the Indiana Cardinals after a year away, and n00bthtpwnz will be assuming the ownership of the San Jose Cyborgs. There will be a league owned team as well, as the league will operate the Baltimore Lancers.
The players from the Warbirds will not be made available directly to one team of the three new teams, but will be available to them during the Expansion Draft.
Both measures did pass on the Interest sheet. With a vote of 7-1 with 5 no preference votes, the regular season will be shortened by two weeks. With a vote of 8-1 with 4 no preference votes, there will be the first ever one round AltBA Rookie Draft. Players taken in the draft will have an initial budget hit of $3 and will increase annually by $2 like all other players. The Rookie Draft will begin on Friday, September 19th. Teams that did not make the playoffs will be in the Lottery for the pick, with Indiana and San Jose getting the top two spots for odds, followed in order by Charlotte, Minnesota, Washington, Boston, Detroit, Vancouver, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles. New York, Kansas City, Albuquerque, and Honolulu will not be part of the Lottery as they made the playoffs. Baltimore will be slotted last for both drafts as a league owned team. Of San Jose and Indiana, who ever gets the later rookie pick will get the 1st pick in the Dispersal Draft.
Budget will be released within the next week, and have a due date of 10/4/25.

Moving up to the top spot in the rookie draft is Boston, moving up to the second spot is Minnesota, the Cardinals as one of three teams with the best odds remains in the top three, and Detroit sneaks into the final spot in the lottery! The Rookie Draft order will be as follows:

2. Minnesota Giants
3. Indiana Cardinals
4. Detroit Mustangs
5. Charlotte Flyers
6. San Jose Cyborgs
7. Vancouver Caribou

Well, suppose we should get on with this while we're working on the AltBA Rookie Draft, it's time for keepers! What do you need to do? Choose they players you want to keep within the $60 budget. Email them to me at AltLB.DC@gmail.com. The due date for the keepers is October 4th, 2025 at 11:59pm Central Time. This is a firm date due to the necessity to facilitate the Expansion Draft.

As the season tips off tomorrow, your defending champions are getting ready for their title defense, starting on the road against the team we beat for that title last April, the Albuquerque Invaders. The Kahunas are going to start the season in their new road uniforms, sporting teal with the new shade of yellow down the sides in the iconic pineapple pattern. Though free agency and expansion shook up the roster, we return the core of the championship team, and center the team around superstar guard Trae Young! #HanaHou

After coming up just short in their title defense, the Albuquerque Invaders get an immediate chance at revenge, as we host a Finals rematch against the Honolulu Kahunas. We're debuting a refre5hed brand - though not quite as drastically different as our opponents' - and a revamped roster. We're breaking out our brand new white uniforms for this one, and the first to be featured on them is G/F Austin Reaves, who averaged just over 20 points per game in '24-'25, to go along with 5.8 assists, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.1 steals. #RoswellThatEndsWell

The Invaders couldn't quite get things going enough to get revenge on the Kahunas, and start the season off 0-1. We'll look to try to rebound against the Philadelphia Gladiators, who put up a strong first game against New York. It'll be an uphill climb if we start 0-2, so we'll need to bring our A-game. G/F Austin Reaves was by far our top performer this week, but it feels wrong to put him on our first two graphics, so instead we turn to his right-hand man, G/F Jaylen Brown, who racked up 89 points, 16 boards, and 11 assists against Honolulu. #RoswellThatEndsWell
