Unless we get a influx of votes today I will release the Western Conference cities this evening.

Re: AltBA Design Thread

Once again, the divide between the winners and the nots was significant. Here are our 12 Western Conference teams.

Los Angeles is clearly a basketball center with the Lakers and UCLA. We have other smaller market NBA cities such as Denver, New Orleans, Minneapolis and Dallas. It is exciting that the AltBA will be in two cities in which the NBA left in Seattle and Vancouver. Finally we have some brand new really small markets that the community seems to be excited about...Honolulu, Albuquerque, Kansas City and Omaha (am I missing something?). Omaha was by far the most popular city in the history of Alt Sports.

Now it is time to start naming our franchises. We are going to be naming them in 4 groups of 6. Here are a few things to keep in mind....

GUIDELINES
1.) You can provide ONE name per city.
2.) Pay attention to the names that other people are submitting so that you don't duplicate submissions.
3.) You can provide a short explanation as to how you arrived at that name.
4.) Remember that getting one of your names selected improves your ranking in the OWNER DRAFT.

RULES
1.) You can't use NBA team names
2.) You can't use Alt Sports team names
3.) You cannot use WNBA or College Basketball teams within that market.
4.) (For Atlanta) no 'Rebels' or other Confederate references
5.) You do not need to use the city locator. You can choose to use the city

HELPFUL HINTS
1.) I have noticed through our first two experiences that the winning team names are typically shorter. They also strike a good balance between 'Taking Thought' without being obscure.
2.) Think to yourself, "What a real team be named this?" Some of the names suggested in the past were well researched and thought out but were too obscure to win.

We begin with Group A:

Re: AltBA Design Thread

Denver Mountaineers - The Rockies are a huge part of Mile High
Seattle Samurai - To Honor Seattle's large Japanese community
Minnesota Giants - Paul Bunyan, Norse Legends
Chicago Hitmen - Obvious Chicago Mob reference
Detroit Monkeys - Obscure reference to the Grease Monkeys and mechanics that gave Motor City it's swagger
Louisville Coopers - Packers-esque name referncing the maker of barrels which is important for Bourbons

Re: AltBA Design Thread

Sad to see Phoenix didn't get a spot but that's okay... we'll get em for baseball.

As for names...

Colorado Coyotes (Coyotes are native to the state, plus the alliteration works great!)

Seattle Pioneers (Named for the Pioneers who discoved the PNW back in the day. There is also an area in Seattle called Pioneer Square)

Minnesota Chill (After Minnesota's cold winters)

Chicago Red Stars (The Chicago flag has 4 Red Stars in the center)

Michigan Motors (Again, the alliteration works well, plus Detroit is known for the car-making industry)

Louisville Mammoths (Mammoth Cave is famous cave in the state of Kentucky)

If it is not okay for Atlanta, it's not okay for anywhere, anything that would likely have their name changed in 2020 should not be used. I think that should be pretty straight forward.

Re: AltBA Design Thread

Denver: Lions - The mountain lions are a fixture on the Rocky Mountains.

Seattle - Emeralds - The Emerald City being a nickname would perfectly fit the city of Seattle.

Minneapolis: Magicians - Minneapolis Miracle, the Minnesota Miracle Man, lots of magic has found its way to Minneapolis.

Chicago: Railers - The massive rail yards of Chicago make it a center of the rail industry.

Detroit: Blizzard - The ruthless winters of the Great Lakes make Michigan winters a battle unlike no other.

Louisville: Roses - The Kentucky Derby is called The Run for the Roses, and basketball teams would be running the court for roses in the form of points
