Teams so far this postseason are undefeated wearing orange and purple. Is this a trend?

Their problem is that they wore their whites.

1970 Kellogg Cup Playoffs; First Round Day 2
Edina Cake Eaters vs Luverne Flying Dutchmen
The Dutchmen gave it their best shot, but Edina was just too much to overcome with the Cake Eaters relentless offensive onslaught finding the back of the net three times. It was just too much for Luverne to overcome and they fell by a final score of 3-1.
La Crosse Brewers vs St. Peter Governors
La Crosse jumped out to a one goal lead with just over a minute to go in the first, holding the lead until the Governors tied the game 2-2 in the third. The Govs were buzzing, scoring twice in the third to force overtime on the road against the Valley Hockey League champs. The Brewers regrouped before ot, coming out much more refined and aggressive. A shot was taken from a bad angle and was pushed aside by the St. Peter goalie. A defenseman came and picked up the puck, but lost bobbled it in the slot, giving the Brewers control in a dangerous zone. The initial shot was saved, but the rebound slid past the outstretched goalkeeper, winning the game for La Crosse.
St. Paul Saints vs Twin Cities Vulcans
Holy War Rivalry in the playoffs, not much can be better than that. With the Vulcans moving to the East a year ago, the Holy war rivalry has been revived and this game aught to stoke the flames further. The first period was scoreless, but that doesn't mean there was no action. The hatred between these two was evident early with a scrum breaking out after the first whistle, giving both teams roughing penalties. The penalties didn't stop there, both teams were cheap shotting the other and finding themselves with 3 or 4 men more often than 5. The penalties began to make an impact in the second when the Vulcans took control, scoring 2 powerplay goals and one even strength to lead 3-1 after 2. St. Paul brought the score to within one in the third, but the Vulcans netted themselves two, making up for not winning the Holy War Trophy by ending their biggest rivals season.
South St. Paul Mavericks vs St. Paul Victorias
On the other side of this St. Paul dominated section was a battle between the Mavs and V's. Unlike the Holy War game, this one was a defensive battle, with both goalies putting on a show. The only goal of the game came on an unsavable tip in front of the goal giving SSP the lead early in the third, sending the Mavericks to the second round.
Brainerd Lumberjacks vs Eveleth Redbirds
Eveleth went into Brainerd with the tall task of knocking off the defending champs on the road. The Lumberjacks wound up on top in the end, but the Redbirds didn't make it easy on them. Eveleth kept the score to within one for the entire game but was unable to get over the top in the end, falling by a score of 3-2.
Winnipeg Monarchs vs Duluth Hornets
Winnipeg seems to have two ways their playoffs go. Becoming a dominant juggernaut nearly impossible to stop; or completely disappearing as soon as the regular season ends, getting upset early in the playoffs. Unluckily for the Monarchs this year was the latter, not only losing, but getting shut out in front of 10,000 of their fans and neighbors. It was the Duluth Hornets this time doing the upsetting, a good team in their own right, but not expected to do this.
Grand Rapids Moose vs Thief River Falls Railers
Another major upset, Thief River Falls went into Grand Rapids to take on the Iron Range champs and wound up taking advantage of their powerplay opportunities, scoring twice with a man up. Grand Rapids was actually in the lead before the Railers tied it up at the end of the first. They then scored their two powerplay goals in the second to take a 3-1 lead. The Moose were stunned, trying to force things that weren't there, giving Thief an odd man rush which they converted on to take a 3 goal lead in the third. The Moose were able to inch their way back to two goals down, but no further, losing 4-2.
Grand Forks Jets vs Hibbing Greyhounds
It was a good day for the Red River Hockey League with the Jets capping off the RRHL sweep of the IRHL in this section. The Jets were in cruise control in this one, leading by three or more for 47 of the 60 minutes and winning by a final score of 5-1 over the Greyhounds.

1970 Kellogg Cup Playoffs; Second Round
Minneapolis Millers vs Rochester Mustangs
Talk about a blowout, the Millers didn't lay of the gas in this one, pummeling the Mustangs into a whopping five to nothing shutout victory to advance to the Super Series.
New Ulm Bavarians vs Bloomington West Terriers
Bloomington West was coming off their biggest win in franchise history, but things didn't get any easier, now facing off against the champs of the Blue Earth Hockey League, the New Ulm Bavarians. The Diamonds were in the lead 1-0 for most of the game, until the Terriers struck twice late in the second to take the lead for West. New Ulm came out for the third and seemed to have tightened things up, regaining control of the game and tying it up a few minutes in. The momentum was all in their favor now and they quickly found themselves back on top, this time for good as they win by a final score of 3-2.
Edina Cake Eaters vs La Crosse Brewers
There was a reason the Cake Eaters were given the number two seed, higher than all the champions of other leagues, including La Crosse. The Cake Eaters are loaded on offense, with last years Tschida Trophy win Ben Hankinson leading the way. La Crosse found themselves on their heels a bit to start, unprepared for the offensive onslaught of Edina. The Cake Eaters found themselves up 2-0 after 1, and didn't let the Brewers back in. They matched every goal La Crosse managed to get just a couple minutes after the Brewers, holding a 2 goal lead for 35:37 of the final two periods on their way to a 4-2 victory, getting back to the Super Series.
South St. Paul Mavericks vs Twin Cities Vulcans
This Twin Cities East battle lived up to the hype as these evenly matched teams battled for over 75 minutes. Neither team really dominated at any point, it was a very even affair throughout. So even that the score was tied 3-3 at the end of regulation. We went to overtime and it continued to look like anyone's game. The Mavs entered the Vulcans zone with just over 5 minutes left in overtime. The puck carrier looked for a shot but nothing was open and he found himself down behind the goal line with a defenseman coming to pressure him. He made a quick pass to a winger at the circle, pulling the defenseman. The winger made a one time pass back to his teammate who made a move towards the front of the net. With the defenseman away from the slot the Maverick was all alone and he tucked it five hole to send South St. Paul to their first Super Series.
Roseau Stars vs East Grand Forks Pointers
The Green Army was loud and proud, packing the Roseau Memorial Arena to the gills, stuffing over 3,500 inside. Roseau jumped out to a two goal lead in the first, but EGF managed to turn it into a one goal lead before the end of the first. The Pointers then proceeded to tie things up in the second. Roseau was unphased, taking a timeout and regrouping and going straight on the offensive, getting their lead back less than a minute later. The Stars added one more in the third to give themselves a cushion. The cards were stacked against the Pointers and they were unable to overcome the Green Army, sending Roseau to their fifth Super Series and completing two undefeated seasons at home.
Thunder Bay Giants vs Virginia Royals
Nobody was surprised that this game was low scoring, with the defenses form both teams among the best in all of the MAHL, but what was unexpected was Thunder Bay's utter lack of offensive muster. The Giants only managed to get a measly 17 shots on goal, not nearly enough to beat a team like the Royals. Virginia would keep Thunder Bay off the board, popping in two for themselves to win 2-0 sending them to the Super Series despite coming in as the 12 seed.
Brainerd Lumberjacks vs Duluth Hornets
After a much closer game than they wanted in the first round, the last thing Brainerd wanted in this one was a slow start, and that's exactly what happened. The Hornets were buzzing from the puck drop, taking the lead in no time and building on it, holding a 3-0 lead after the first. Brainerd was stunned, in unfamiliar territory, and Duluth kept the pressure up, drawing powerplay chances and getting shot on goal, but nothing would get through, keeping Brainerd somewhat in this still. The Jacks finally woke up after it was too late, ending the shutout in the third, but still losing by a score of 3-1, crushing their dreams of going back to back.
Grand Forks Jets vs Thief River Falls Railers
It was a Red River Rivalry game between two of the "big three" of the RRHL. As games between these two often go, things were close and chippy. The referees seemed to be letting them play though, letting some questionable calls go for both sides. We found ourselves fittingly tied at two at the end of regulation, sending us to overtime. The Jets speed was becoming more evident as the Railers became gassed from being pinned in their defensive zone. Grand Forks was buzzing, holding the Railers on the ice for over two minutes, and passing lanes were beginning to open up. The gassed Railers were sitting ducks and the Jets were moving the puck wherever they wanted with no problem. The Jets sauced a puck to the far side of the crease for a one timer which was smacked square into the top corner, sending Grand Forks to the Super Series over their rivals from Thief.

My lord, smell ya Rochester! Millers and Stars are good but gut says Edina

Of course my two favorite teams remaining have to play each other. So I guess I'm rooting for the winner of the Bavarians-Jets to win it all.

I'm with Dan on this one. I'd love to see both New Ulm and Grand Forks bring home the Kellog Cup.

1970 Kellogg Cup Super Series; Great Eight
Roseau Stars vs Virginia Royals
Virginia came into this game heavy underdogs, and despite putting up a better fight than expected, the Royals were still shut out by a very good Roseau squad. The star of the game was Roseau center Isaac Broten, a player in his 4th year with the team who came out of nowhere this season to become one of the highest scoring players in the MAHL, netting two of his teams three goals tonight against Virginia.
Grand Forks Jets vs New Ulm Bavarians
It was a battle between the 4 and 5 seeds, with both teams playing their best hockey. The diamonds got on the board first, holding a one goal lead until the Jets tied things up in the third. The score was tied at one at the end of regulation sending us to overtime at Met Center. Overtime seemed like it had just begun when New Ulm got a shot on target, causing a rebound in the slot. A Bavarian was the first man to the loose puck, smacking it towards the goal. The goalie got a piece of it with his stick, but it wasn't enough as it trickled past the goal line, winning the game for New Ulm and sending them to the Semi Finals for the first time in franchise history.
Minneapolis Millers vs Duluth Hornets
It was an original ten match up between the Millers and Hornets, and despite having been in the MAHL since its foundation this is the first time that these two teams have ever faced one another. It was a heavyweight tilt, with both sides displaying their offensive prowess. The play was fast paced and exciting with both teams going back and forth. The Millers found themselves ahead 3-1 after two despite it being even in terms of play. The Hornets got on the board less than a minute into the third, bringing the deficit to one. Duluth proceeded to swarm the Millers zone, coming so close to tying the score a number of times, but Minneapolis held strong, surviving the attack and managing to kill the rest of the clock, advancing to the Semi Finals and sending the Hornets back to Duluth with a final score of 3-2.
Edina Cake Eaters vs South St. Paul Mavericks
The first and second were fairly even, but Edina had capitalized on a couple chances, leading 2-0. But things switched in the third. SSP went beast mode, getting 18 shots on goal and finding the back of the net a whopping four times while keeping the Cake Eaters off the board in the third, stunning Edina with a third period comeback victory to get the Mavericks to the Semi Finals for the first time since 1941, which happens to also be the last time they won the Kellogg Cup.
Will the Stars keep shining bright? Or will the Diamonds prove their worth and reach the Kellogg Cup final?
Will the Mighty Millers best their long time rivals? Or will the Mavericks return to the finals at long last?

My god, the Diamonds got 'em.
