Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

1984 Kellogg Cup Playoffs: Second Round - North

#1 Thunder Bay Giants vs #25 Two Harbors Wolfpack
It was a battle between two Lake Superior Hockey League foes at a sold out Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The top ranked Giants got on the board first, holding a 1-0 lead until they buried a rebound late in the second to take a 2-0 lead after 2. The Wolfpack would not back down though, coming back strong in the third period to tie the game at two apiece and turn the momentum in their favor. Alex Rucchin made a couple incredible saves to keep the game tied and looking back, would help win the game for Big Red. Thunder Bay would score a late dagger with 1:20 left in the game to take a 3-2 lead, nearly blowing the roof off the building from the roar of the crowd. Thunder Bay keeps their dream of going back to back alive, topping Two Harbors by a score of 3-2 to advance to the Super Series.

#5 West Fargo Wasps vs #9 Bemidji Blue Ox
It was everything you could have hoped for in a top 10 matchup with a Super Series birth on the line. The Wasps and Blue Ox made sure to finish their checks all game long, both teams giving their all for their colors. West Fargo led 2-1 after one, outshooting Bemidji 12-8. The Ox tied it on the powerplay in the second, and rattled off two more in the third for three unanswered goals to silence the crowd in West Fargo. The final horn sounded and Ox swarmed their goaltender in celebration, returning to the Super Series for the 4th time in team history with a 4-2 win.

#3 Warroad Lakers vs #20 Virginia Royals
Warroad kept it rolling after a 5-1 blowout in the first round, coming out and completely shutting down the Virginia Royals. The Royals couldn't get anything going on offense, only mustering 25 shots on goal for the game. The Lakers found the back of the net once in each period on their way to a convincing 3-0 shutout win over Virginia for their 8th Super Series birth in team history.

Fort Frances Trappers vs Tower-Soudan Miners
The Miners are heading to the Super Series! For the first time since returning from the dead, Tower-Soudan has punched their ticket to Bloomington, edging out the Fort Frances Trappers on the road. The Trappers got the games first goal early in the second period, but the Miners rattled off three unanswered to flip the game on its head and completely take the crowd out of it. The final horn sounded and the party can officially begin, the two towns combining for a total population of under 1,000 are heading to Bloomington with a 3-1 victory.

1984 Kellogg Cup Playoffs: Second Round - Twin Cities North

#7 Sauk Rapids Bulldogs vs Lino Lakes Herons
It may have taken them a while, falling behind 2-0 after the first period, but Sauk Rapids was eventually able to wear down the Herons to rattle off five straight goals. The Bulldogs buried two on a 5 minute major in the second and a third late in the period to take a 3-2 lead. They weren't done there though, sniping two more past the Lino Lakes netminder to give themselves a three goal lead. Lino Lakes had no answer, falling by a final score of 5-2 to send Sauk Rapids to their very first Super Series.

Fergus Falls Cyclones vs Brooklyn Center Catamounts
We had a high scoring affair in Fergus Falls as the Cyclones and Catamounts combined for 10 goals for the game. The 1,300+ in attendance left with big smiles on their faces with the hometown Clones walking away with a 6-4 victory, just converting on more of the opportunities given to them. This win sends Fergus Falls to their very first Super Series in team history.

Stillwater Volunteers vs Coon Rapids Bandits
Sometimes, all you need is to be hot at the right time of the year, that seems to be the case for the Coon Rapids Bandits. Hot off their comeback win against Maplewood, the Bandits managed to do it again. Stillwater was ahead 2-1 after 2, but another great third period from Coon Rapids would propel them in front 3-2, holding that lead until the final horn sounded to punch their ticket to Bloomington for the first time ever.

#15 Blaine Spartans vs St. Cloud Bearcats
The Spartans got a taste of the big show last year, and you could see just how bad they wanted to win this one and get back to the Super Series. Blaine found the back of the net twice in the opening period, putting the Bearcats on their heels for the rest of the game. The Spartans played safe in their own end, not needing to pressure up by two. St. Cloud eventually turned over the puck which resulted in a breakaway for the Spartans. He beat the goalie with the backhand to put his team up 3-0 with 12 minutes left in the game. St. Cloud would have no response, getting shut out by Blaine by a score of 3-0.

1984 Kellogg Cup Playoffs: Second Round - Twin Cities South

#2 Minneapolis Millers vs Apple Valley Cardinals
Nothing was standing in the way of the Mighty Millers reaching the Super Series this year. Minneapolis rolled right over Apple Valley, shutting out the Cardinals in convincing fashion by a final score of 5-0.

#14 Eagan Oaks vs #18 Mound Marauders
It was a race on the scoreboard in this one as the Oaks and Marauders went back and forth lighting the lamp. Eagan held the lead early, but Mound came back and were ahead 4-3 after 2. Eagan came out flying in the third, scoring two before Mound tied it up at five apiece. The Oaks capitalized on an odd man rush with just under 4 minutes left in regulation to retake the lead up 6-5. Mound would get some chances, including a shot off the post with 37 seconds left to play, but Eagan would hold on to return to the Super Series for the second time in as many years.

#6 St. Louis Park Louies vs South St. Paul Mavericks
This was a great hockey game between two very evenly matched squads. SSP scored first, but the Louies tied it up in the second. The Mavs again took the lead, but St. Louis Park tied it up only 21 seconds later to make it 2-2. It was anyone's game for the longest time, but both goaltenders were on top of their game. It wasn't until a Louie walked into the slot and ripped a shot five hole to put St. Louis Park up 3-2 with 5:53 left in regulation. The Mavericks pulled their goalie in the final minute of play which resulted in a two goal cushion for the hometown Louies with under a minute to play. St. Louis Park killed the rest of the clock to advance to their first ever Super Series with a 4-2 victory over South St. Paul.

#13 St. Paul Victorias vs Minnetonka Muskies
I'm not sure whether the Muskies were still a bit gassed after a hard fought overtime win in the first round, or if the V's are just that quick, but St. Paul put on a clinic in this game. The St. Paul Auditorium was rocking as the V's dominated in the offensive zone, putting up 38 shots for the game, 4 of which lighting the lamp. The Muskies were able to convert on their only powerplay chance of the game to prevent a shutout, but this one was all St. Paul as the V's advance to their 12th Super Series in team history with a 4-1 victory.

1984 Kellogg Cup Playoffs: Second Round - South

#10 Sioux Falls Packers vs Brookings Buffaloes
It was a sold out crowd at the Slaughterhouse with a fair amount of visitors making the trek south from Brookings. The nearly 5,000 fans watching were in for a treat, a full on battle for 60 minutes only for the score to be tied 2-2. We went to overtime to decide a winner. It was slow at first with both teams playing it safe, but things began to open up after a few minutes. Sioux Falls found a man at the top of the circle who shot low for a rebound that went right to a Packer forward in front of the net who smacked it into the back of the net, sending the crowd crazy and his teammates over the boards. Sioux Falls is heading to the Super Series for the first time in five years, beating their rivals from Brookings 3-2 in overtime.

#19 Hastings Rivermen vs #23 St. Peter Governors
Hastings Civic Arena was sold out as the #19 Rivermen took on the #23 Governors of St. Peter. The first was a fire fight with the Rivermen up 3-2 after 20 minutes. The second was much slower and we ended the same as we began the period with Hastings up by one. St. Peter knotted it up at three on a redirect in front early in the third and we had a game on our hands. The Governors were buzzing for the next minute or two, but Hastings was able to get an odd man rush after a blocked shot. They went down 3 on 1 and passed between them to pull the goalie before finding a man for an easy tap in to put the Rivermen up 4-3. Hastings would go on to kill the rest of the clock to finally punch their ticket to the Super Series, edging St. Peter by a score of 4-3.

#12 Mankato Moose vs Marshall Pheasants
UPSET ALERT! Marshall took it upon themselves to avenge some playoff demons, taking down the very Moose who eliminated them in the First Round a year ago. The Pheasants struck early and were able to hold the lead for the rest of the game, going ahead 2-0 in the second before Mankato got on the board. Marshall retook a two goal lead on a one timer in the third, a lead they would hold until the final horn sounded. The Fightin' Pheasants are heading to their 4th Super Series in team history, their first since 1980.

#24 Red Wing Chiefs vs Mason City Musicians
The Chiefs got the scoring started midway through the first, scoring twice only 39 seconds apart to take a 2-0 lead after 1. Mason City got one in the second, but Red Wing answered back. The Chiefs pushed their lead to 4-1, but the Musicians responded with 2 straight in the third to make it a one goal game. Red Wing got the clincher with under five minutes to play, beating the goalie under the arm. The final horn sounded and the crowd went wild, the Red Wing Chiefs are headed to their second Super Series, beating Mason City by a score of 5-3.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Idea that doesn't change a thing, but would be cool. Instead of giving the direct link, why not make up a fictional TV station name and hyperlink it to your twitch? Could progress over time. From MN Channel 10 all the way to The Microsoft Excel Super Series presented by Xcel Energy on MN Channel X.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

I have to pull for the T-S boys. They've been through so much. I hope they can bring the title back to Tower/Soudan.
