Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

That's not very winnipoggers

I do like the Stars, though, so it's not all bad.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

1982 Kellogg Cup Playoffs: Second Round - Twin Cities

#2 St. Paul Victorias vs Eau Claire Rubber Kings
The St. Paul Auditorium was electric as the puck was dropped for this section final matchup between the V's and Kings. The first was kind of a feeling out process with neither team getting many good looks, St. Paul did control time of possession though. The V's got on the board thanks to a rocket from Housley on a pass from Parker. Eau Claire would have their best chance of the game late in the second getting a breakaway, but it was denied by the St. Paul goaltender, keeping the Rubber Kings at zero. The V's got their insurance goal on a rebound midway through the third and from there they were able to kill the clock and cinch the victory. The St. Paul Victorias are heading back to the Super Series for the 10th time in franchise history, shutting out Eau Claire 2-0.

#15 Brooklyn Park Panthers vs Cottage Grove Yellow Jackets
The Yellow Jackets stung first, getting an odd man rush in the first few minutes that ended with a shot just under the bar. Brooklyn Park tied it up with 7 minutes left in the first and it would remain 1-1 when the horn sounded to end the period. The second period was back and forth at times, but for the most part it was really slow with lots of whistles and not much going on for offense. The third is where Brooklyn Park came to life, showing just how bad they want it. The Panthers berated the Cottage Grove goalie with 14 shots in the period, three of which found the back of the net to push BP to a 4-1 lead. The final horn sounded and the 2,000+ fans at Northland Community Arena erupted in cheer, the Brooklyn Park Panthers are finally heading to the Super Series at long last.

#6 Bloomington West Terriers vs #23 Edina Cake Eaters
The Terrier-Eater rivalry had some fuel put onto the fire in this one as West and Edina went the distance in what turned out to be a classic. This game was not lacking in the physical and/or cheap shot department with both teams exchanging pleasantries throughout the game. Edina scored late in the first to open the scoring, pushing their lead to 2-0 in the second. The Terriers got a powerplay chance with 4 minutes left in the second and were able to bury a rebound to make it a one goal game heading into the third. It was all Terriers in the third with West pouring on the pressure. Edina was able to withstand the onslaught for a while, but West was bound to get one through eventually. The Terriers finally knotted things up with a shot through a screen, sending the BIG into mayhem. Edina held off Bloomington for the rest of the period despite the continued offensive attack. The Terriers were ahead 34-26 in shots as we went to overtime in Bloomington. Edina seemed to have made some tactical changes in the locker room, leaving a man high on the far side so as soon as they gained control they flipped it out of their zone, creating a 1v1 race for the loose puck between the high winger and a Terrier defenseman. The Eater won the race and was in all alone on goal, faking a shot to drop the goalie before pulling it around the keeper and tucking it into the back of the net. Edina has managed to survive, taking down the WMHL champs just over a minute into overtime by a score of 3-2.

#17 Richfield Roosters vs Coon Rapids Bandits
Richfield Arena was filled to capacity as the puck was dropped for this one. The Roosters gave the fans in the stands plenty to cheer about early, dominating the first shift of the game and keeping the Bandits on the ice for nearly two full minutes before finally finding the back of the net for the games opening score. It wasn't until the third that another goal was scored with Richfield capitalizing on the man advantage to make it a 2-0 game with 16:40 left in the game. Coon Rapids finally got on the board on what could be considered a rather weak goal for the Rooster goalie to allow. It doesn't matter how you get them, a goal is a goal at the end of the day, and with that the Bandits were only down 2-1. Coon Rapids was forced to pull their goalie with a little more than a minute left to play which quickly backfired as the Cocks took control of the puck almost the moment the Bandit goalie got off the ice. Richfield took it the other way and put it in the empty net to secure the win. The Roosters are heading back to the Super Series, knocking out Coon Rapids by a score of 3-1.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Why did Edina have to be the one who pulls off the upset?

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Finally, I did well with my predictions, going 4-for-4 with the Twin Cities and on the nose with the score for Richfield's win.

1982 Kellogg Cup Playoffs: Second Round - South

#14 Austin Mavericks vs Willmar Posse
UPSET ALERT! The Willmar Posse keep their incredible first season going, hanging on to a 1-0 lead despite being outshot and outplayed by Austin. The Mavericks were just snake bit on the offensive side of things, unable to get one across the line. The Mavs gave it everything they had, but the Posse would get it done to advance to the Super Series in their inaugural season. For Austin, this brings an end to their Super Series streak finishing at 5 years.

Brookings Buffaloes vs Inver Grove Heights Lions
Brookings struck first on a snipe late in the opening period. IGH would tie things up at one each on a deflection in front, but the Buffs regained the lead 3:11 later. Brookings scored through a screen in the third to push their lead to 3-1 which would prove to be the final score of the game as the final horn sounded. Brookings is heading back to the Super Series for the second year in a row, knocking out Inver Grove by a score of 3-1.

#16 New Ulm Bavarians vs Mason City Musicians
These two Blue Earth Hockey League foes know each other very well, so it was no surprise that this game was as close as it was. At the end of the day though, the league champion Bavarians were just the better team, finding the back of the net four times to the Musicians two. Mason City held their own, but didn't have quite what it took to reach the Super Series as New Ulm returns to the show after a 7 year hiatus.

Mankato Moose vs Winona Wildcats
They did it again! The Winona Wildcats pulled off their second major upset of the playoffs thus far, knocking off perennial south powerhouse Mankato on the road. The Cats got the first two goals of the game in the first, the Moose got one back in the second but Winona made it 3-1. Mankato made things close again with a rebound goal midway through the third to make it a one goal game. The Moose pulled their goalie with a minute and a half left to get the extra attacker and set up like they wer eon a powerplay. The Moose worked it around and got a few high quality chances, even ringing a shot off the post, but it would not go. Finally with just over 20 seconds left the Wildcats gained control and were able to dump it into the empty net to clinch the victory. Winona, once considered the laughing stock of the MAHL, is heading to the Super Series, taking down Mankato by a score of 4-2.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Imagine how wild a Posse Kellogg Cup would be. I'm glad my Bavs and the Posse are advancing. It's also good to see Winona finally make the Super Series.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Super Series Bracket and Playdown Round Preview

#17 Richfield Roosters vs #23 Edina Cake Eaters
Two teams that really don't like each other are facing off in the first game of the 1982 Super Series. Although the Megaphone wont be on the line in this one, much more is at stake. Despite the history and fierce rivalry between these West Metro foes, the Eaters and Roosters have never faced off in the playoffs so this will be extra special for both teams. Will Richfield feast on cake and advance? Or will Edina remain that thorn in the side of the Roosters and advance?

#12 Roseau Stars vs Winona Wildcats
Roseau is back and looking to make some damage, but standing in their way is the Cinderella Seed from Winona. The Wildcats have been on quite the run to get here for the first time and will surely be giving it their all when the puck is dropped. The Stars are the heavily favored team on paper and will look to advance for a date with their Northland rivals. Will the Stars shine bright and advance with the win? Or will Winona add another chapter to their impressive run?

#16 New Ulm Bavarians vs Brookings Buffaloes
A couple of South Region foes will go at it for a chance to keep their season alive. The Bavarians are the favored team by many, but Brookings is a good hockey team and are definitely capable of pulling off an upset. Will New Ulm go Bison hunting and advance? Or will the Buffs trample the Diamonds and move on?

#15 Brooklyn Park Panthers vs Willmar Posse
So Brooklyn Park finally made it to the Super Series, now the pressure is on them to perform. The Panthers are coming in as the 6 seed and are the favorites to advance, but Willmar has been undervalued all year long for being an expansion team. The Posse shocked the SWHA by making the playoffs and shocked the South Region by advancing from their section to make it here. Will BP deliver under the bright lights? Or will the Posse round up another upset win and keep their dream season alive?

Let me know what you think, comments are appreciated!
