Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Sitting at the cabin, might as well post the offseason highlights

1975/76 MAHL Offseason

- 2 expansion teams are set to join two leagues this season

- 9 current teams made adjustments to their identities

- 5 teams got new arenas
              - Apple Valley: Coming off their best season to date, the Cardinals are heading indoors to 1,250 seat Apple Valley Sports Arena on the campus of Apple Valley High School
              - Austin: The only team in the south to have won a Kellogg Cup is finally moving indoors to the new state of the art 2,500 seat Riverside Arena
              - Cannon Falls: The Artillery are putting a roof over their heads, opening a bare bones rink that seats 800 and is called Cannon Falls Civic Arena
              - Coon Rapids: The Bandits will call 1,000 seat Coon Rapids Civic Arena home
              - Lakeville: The Admirals are moving off the lake and into 800 seat Lakeville Arena

- 4 teams got mascots

- 2 new rivalry trophies were created

- 2 teams retired players numbers

And finally the MAHL announced that going forward league champions will automatically get their first playoff game at home, even if other teams are higher ranked than them. This came after Fergus Falls filed a complaint for being forced to play in Roseau in the first round despite winning the Granite Hockey League.

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Retired Numbers

Thunder Bay is honoring team legend Joshua Staal who wore the red and white for an incredible 21 years, helping establish the Giants as a defensive juggernaut. Staal helped his team win 6 Lake Superior League titles and reach the Super Series three times.

The Warroad Lakers have decided that no Laker will wear James Oshie's number 7. Oshie played for Warroad for over two decades, capped off by winning Warroad's first Kellogg Cup which he played an integral part in.

Rivalry Trophies

There were two new rivalry trophies created this offseason, one on the shores of Superior and another down in the Southwest, becoming the first rivalry trophy in the SWHA.

After seeing that good boy Greyson, I hate the Greyhounds slightly less now....now they're only my 2nd least favorite team!

Re: Minnesota Amateur Hockey League

Aw man the Cake Eaters just can't catch a break, congrats to the Moose on winning the title.

The Mascots are very good mainly for both the Greyhounds and Packers they are my favourites.

My personal least favorite is actually the Edina Cake Eaters, (so yeah, very glad we beat them in the final!).  Don't get me wrong, they're very well designed (one of your better designed teams in fact), it's more I can't get behind a team named the Cake Eaters, I think it's still the strangest team name I've ever heard for a sports team, though I do understand why they're called that.  Not to mention, it sounds like Edina has a reputation as being a stuck up city.  Given I deal with rich, stuck up people from a nearby metro area (won't say which one as to not offend anyone) every summer, I can imagine Edina citizens, (at least, the rich and snobby ones) to be intolerable, haha!
