Re: NFL-PCFL Simulation

1963 NFL Season
The 1963 season, saw the absolute domination of the West by the Green Bay Packers, who would finish 12-2. To put this in perspective, the second place Chicago Bears went 8-5-1. With such a team in place, the Packers were mostly favorites to win the NFL Title. In the East, the Giants, Colts and Browns all competed for the number one spot in the conference. The New York Giants would finish first, with a 10-4 record, while the Baltimore Colts and Cleveland Browns both finished 9-5. In the NFL Title, held in Green Bay, the Packers jumped out to an early 9-0 lead, all field goals, before the Giants offense got to work. With the championship on the line, the Giants outperformed their opponent , winning the NFL title 24-9.

1963 PCFL Season
The 1963 season was not very exciting. Only the top two teams (San Diego and Oakland) posted winning records and as such the Pacific Bowl matchup was decided months in advance. Hosted in San Diego, the Chargers were favorites to win, but a close game was expected. As such the game was a tough one, with the Chargers winning by 4 points. The final score was 18-14.

1964 NFL Season
The 1964 season was a close one in the East, with the top 4 teams (Browns, Eagles, Colts and Redskins) all competing for first place. In the West, however, the Dallas Texans and Green Bay Packers dominated, finishing 12-2 and 10-4 respectively. In the East, the Browns would pull ahead winning the conference with a 10-4 record. In the 1964 NFL Title, the Dallas Texans and Cleveland Browns played in front of a sellout crowd in Dallas, where the spectators were treated to a visual delight. The final score, was 35-20, with the Dallas Texans picking up their third NFL Title.

1964 PCFL Season
The PCFL, now in it's fifth season, faced an important milestone, the first perfect regular season. The 1964 San Diego finished 10-0, and posted impressive offensive and defensive statistics. The Saint Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams, Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers all competed for second place. The season ended with the 5-5 Cardinals, traveling to San Diego to play the Chargers in the Pacific Bowl. In this title, the perfect Chargers were outgunned by the Cardinals and lost 28-14. This was the second title for the Saint Louis Cardinals.

1965 NFL Season
Once again, the Eastern Conference was a close finish, with the top four teams (Eagles, Redskins, Colts and Browns) all competing for first place. The Eagles would pull ahead eventually, finishing 11-3, and winning the Conference title by a tiebreaker with the, also, 11-3 Redskins. In the West, the Dallas Texans dominated the competition finishing 11-3, with only the 9-5 Chicago Bears offering any resistance. In the NFL title, fans expecting a close game would be disappointed, as the Dallas Texans destroyed the Eagles in Philadelphia, 28-0

1965 PCFL Season
In 1965 the PCFL was dominated, again, by the San Diego Chargers. This year they would finish 9-1, and host another Pacific Bowl. The battle for second place was won by the, 6-4, San Francisco 49ers, who finished one game ahead of the defending champion Saint Louis Cardinals. In the 1965 Pacific Bowl, held in San Diego, the Chargers would win 14-3, a slug fest that wasn't very fun to watch.

Re: NFL-PCFL Simulation

1966 NFL Season
The 1966 NFL Season had some surprises, starting with the East. The winner of the Eastern Conference, the 12-2 Pittsburgh Steelers, shocked the world when they won the path to the NFL Title. In second in the East, were the Baltimore Colts, who finished with a 10-4 record, and the team considered most likely to win the NFL title that year. In the West, the Green Bay Packers found their way to a conference title, beating out the Dallas Texans, with a 12-2 record, to Dallas's 11-2-1 record. With Dallas vanquished, the Packers, under Coach Lombardi, expected to soundly defeat the upstart Steelers. However, when the game finally came, it was a close game, where the Packers won, 13-10.

1966 PCFL Season
The 1966 PCFL season, faced another close race. The Saint Louis Cardinals, would post a 7-1-2 record, where as the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers, would both finish with 6-3-1, with the Rams winning the tiebreaker. With the 49ers out of the way, the Pacific Bowl was set between the Cardinals and Rams being hosted in Saint Louis. In front of a home town crowd, the Cardinals beat the Rams 13-10, with the Cardinals winning on a last second field goal.

1967 NFL Season
The 1967 NFL season was marked by the expansion to Atlanta and New Orleans, with Atlanta in the East, and New Orleans in the West. Both teams would have losing seasons, with Atlanta going 1-13 and landing in 7th, and New Orleans going 3-10-1, finishing just ahead of the last place Vikings. As to the rest of the season, the Baltimore Colts won the East, pulling ahead of the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants. The Colts, who posted a 11-3 record, were back in the NFL title for the first time since 1958. In the West, the defending champion Green Bay Packers finished with a 9-5 record, in 4th place in the Western Conference. Ahead of them were Oilers and Bears, as well as the Conference champion Dallas Texans, who, with a 11-2-1 record, clinched another NFL Title in the Cotton Bowl. The NFL Title was a close one, with the game being decided by a 3rd quarter touchdown, that made the final score, 17-10, giving Dallas its fifth championship.

1967 PCFL Season
The PCFL season faced a three way battle for first place. The Oakland Raiders, Saint Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Rams all fought to make the postseason, with the Rams losing out to the Saint Louis Cardinals, as both had a 7-3 record, while the Raiders posted a 7-2-1 record. With the title set, the two young QB's (Saint Louis's Jim Hart and Oakland's Daryle Lamonica) faced off in a tough hard fought battle, that saw the hometown Oakland Raiders win 17-16.

1968 NFL Season
In the Eastern Conference, the Baltimore Colts and Cleveland Browns contended with each other for the conference title. Although the Browns were able to stay in the race, they would end up losing to the 12-2 Colts. In the West, the defending champion Dallas Texans finished with a perfect season, going 14-0, with Green Bay, who were 9-5, being the closest to the first place team. This NFL Title, a rematch in the Cotton Bowl, was a close one. Again the Colts would lose, this time 16-10.

1968 PCFL Season
The PCFL season in 1968 was notable in that it had it's second perfect regular season, this time by the 10-0 Oakland Raiders. With the Raiders perfect, most of the rest of the league lagged behind. While the Los Angeles Rams went 8-2 (only losing to the Raiders), the third place San Diego Chargers went 5-5, far behind the Raiders and Rams. At the Pacific Bowl in Oakland, the Raiders finished their perfect season, perfect, beating the Los Angeles Rams 17-10.

Re: NFL-PCFL Simulation

1969 NFL Season

The 1969 NFL season was all about the culmination of the season, and the next title between the Baltimore Colts and the Dallas Texans. In the East, the race was surprisingly close. The Colts finished 9-5, the same as the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles, but with Baltimore winning on tiebreakers. In the West, the Dallas Texans, faced a tight race as well, going head to head with the Minnesota Vikings, which ended with the Texans at 12-2 and the Vikings at 11-3. With the stage set, Dallas hosted its third title in as many season, although there were plenty of Colts fans who had made the trip to the Cotton Bowl. This was arguably the best game of the series, with the Texans winning yet again, this time beating the Colts 20-17 on a last second touchdown from Len Dawson to Otis Taylor.

1969 PCFL Season
Going into the 1969 season, only one franchise had never made an appearance in the Pacific Bowl, the Denver Broncos. Going into the season, they won a close game against the Saint Louis Cardinals, and then lost badly to the Oakland Raiders. Following this defeat, they went on an 8 game winning streak, going 9-1 and earning the honor of hosting the Pacific Bowl. Coming close behind the Broncos were the Oakland Raiders, who posted a 8-2 record and easily won second place. In the Pacific Bowl, the Denver Broncos were massacred by the Raiders offense and defense, losing the game 44-7.

1970 NFL Season
The 1970 season began with the "merger" of the National Football League and Continental Football League. The Co.FL had launched in 1962 with 8 teams in mostly empty markets, though they did launch with a Comiskey Park based team called the Owls. The two most successful by far were the Boston Patriots and the Miami Dolphins, who succeeded in titles and fan attention. As such in 1970, the NFL intended to expand to those markets, and won entry for those teams into the NFL.

As a result of these two teams, the NFL placed 8 teams in each conference, East and West, with two divisions within each conference. These were the Atlantic and North in the East, and the Central and South in the West. In the Eastern Conference Atlantic, the Miami Dolphins, with the same roster they had had in the 1969 Co.FL, went 10-4, and beat out the Eastern Conference champion Baltimore Colts, who finished 8-6.

In the North Division, the Pittsburgh Steelers faced a tight race with the New York Giants, going 9-5, to the Giants 8-6.  With the new divisions, would come a new round of playoffs. Each divisional champion would play the other in an Eastern or Western Conference Finals, with the best regular season record hosting the NFL Title. In the Eastern Conference Final in 1970, the Steelers faced off against the Miami Dolphins in the Orange Bowl. The newcomers played well, but were outclassed by Terry Bradshaw, losing to the Steelers 35-13.

In the Western Conference, the Central Division saw a immensely close race between the Detroit Lions and the Minnesota Vikings, both finishing 12-2. Due to the tiebreaker in the division, the Lions made their first postseason appearance since the 1950's. In the South Division, the Dallas Texans played as expected going 12-2 and leaving the 8-6 Atlanta Falcons in second place. In the Western Conference Final, the Texans were expected to win, but came up short to the Lions 19-14 in Detroit. In the NFL Title matchup, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Detroit Lions fought a close battle, but the hometown Lions would secure the victory, 17-14.

1970 PCFL Season
While the NFL was growing, the PCFL remained largely the same. The top two teams still played in the Pacific Bowl and there was no expansion, but the league was from stagnant, as the built up rivalries had born fruit. This aside, the season was barely competitive, with the Los Angeles Rams going 9-1, and the Saint Louis Cardinals going 8-2. When the title came to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the massive building was a sell out. Most were Rams fans, but there were some fans who made the trip from Saint Louis. Though it started 7-7, the Rams would soon run away with it, beating the Cardinals 27-7.

1971 NFL Season
With the start of the 1971 season in the Eastern Conference Atlantic Division, the Miami Dolphins returned with the intent to return to a Eastern Conference Final. However this was not to be, as the Washington Redskins went 13-1, only losing to the Dallas Texans during the regular season. The Dolphins went 9-5 and missed the postseason, while the Baltimore Colts went 8-6, and the last place Bay State Patriots went a poor 4-10.

In the North Division, the Pittsburgh Steelers had a poor season, though they would win the Division Title. At 7-6-1 they were ahead of the Cleveland Browns who were an even worse 5-8-1. The Eagles and the Giants were just as bad. When the Eastern Conference Final came to Washington D.C. the Redskins were heavily favored and impressed the home crowd with a 20-10 victory over the Steelers.

In the Western Conference Central Division, the Lions won 9 games, but finished in second to the Minnesota Vikings, who went 12-2 for the second season in a row. The Green Bay Packers finished 8-6 and then the Chicago Bears went 7-7. In the South Division, the Dallas Texans once again won a divisional title with a 9-5 record. The Houston Oilers were one game behind finishing 8-6. The Falcons had five wins and the Saints one. With the Western Conference Final, the Minnesota Vikings hosted a snowy game against the Dallas Texans. The Texans, the greatest dynasty in modern NFL football, were old but still good, while the Vikings were a rising power. But in those snows the Vikings foundered, losing 17-3 to the Dallas Texans and sending the Texans back to the NFL Title. In the NFL Title in 1971, the Washington Redskins hosted the game, with RFK Stadium being filled with hometown fans. And in a sign of the end of an era, the Dallas Texans were handily defeated 28-0. The Redskins hosted a trophy for the first time since 1942. Unfortunately it would also be their last.
