For the Avengers, I'd look at a stylized "LA". We're in the 90's, so maybe put it in front of a tribal tattoo design (similar to the way WCW marketed Goldberg around his name and tattoo). Then go big with colors. Pick some options that aren't used in the league much and toss them together on black, and go BFBS.

Avengers sounds great for LA, but i've always liked the name Suns for a Los Angeles team.

Since Toronto takes Montreal's place in my WLAF scenario, I pretty much repurposed the Machine's M and turned it into a stylized LA. The jagged edges are lifted from the LA city flag.
