Re: The World (League) According to Neo

WEEK NINE
April 20, 1991

Toronto Huskies 24 at Amsterdam Admirals 14
Venue: Amsterdam Olympic Stadium
TV: USA Network
Announcers: Tim Brandt and Dan Marino
Sideline Reporter: Nick Halling

With Doug Flutie under center, the Huskies record their second win in a row against an Admiral team that has stumbled in recent weeks. At the start of the third quarter, with the game tied at 14, Amsterdam had a potential game changing interception called back because of a pass interference call. From that point forward, Flutie drove the Husky offense down the field with little resistance.

London Monarchs 45 at Sacramento Surge 21
Venue: Hughes Stadium
TV: USA Network
Announcers: Ted Robinson and Dave Jennings
Sideline Reporter: Dan Jiggetts

Stan Gelbaugh and the Monarchs took complete control of the game from the opening kickoff. The Surge tried to fight back late, but it was London who held on for the win.

Paris Phantoms 27 at NY/NJ Knights 23
Venue: Meadowlands
TV: USA Network
Announcers: Bill Macatee and Warren Moon
Sideline Reporter: Jack Arute

Paris kick returner George LaFrance broke his touchdown slump with a 94 yard run back to begin the second half. Later on, with under four minutes to play, the Knights drove the length of the field. Eric Wilkerson was stopped on three straight goal line plays. On fourth and goal, Jeff Graham looked for Kip Lewis, but his pass was swatted away by Paris linebacker Richard Tardits.

April 21, 1991
Baltimore Stallions 20 at Frankfurt Galaxy 17
Venue: Waldstadion
TV: Fox
Announcers: Kevin Harlan and Jerry Glanville
Sideline Reporter: Mick Luckhurst

Despite the Galaxy's losing record, the Waldstadion boasts the largest and loudest crowds in the World League. After Frankfurt trailed 14-3 at halftime, Tony Baker carried the ball 14 times on his way to help the Galaxy take a 17-14 lead. Bjorn Nittmo added a field goal to tie the game for Baltimore and would be called on again to kick the game winner in overtime.

Orlando Thunder 24 at San Antonio Riders 13
Venue: Alamo Stadium
TV: Fox
Announcers: Barry Tompkins and John Robinson
Sideline Reporter: Jim Valvano

Ricky Blake made a valiant effort on the ground for San Antonio in the second half, but that wasn't enough to beat a Thunder team on the rise.

April 22, 1991
Mexico City Luchadores 0 at Los Angeles Avengers 34
Venue: Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum
TV: USA Network
Announcers: Brad Nessler, Boomer Esiason and Dennis Miller
Sideline Reporter: Michael Barkann
HelmetCam: Demetrius Davis (TE; Avengers)

The Luchadores couldn't do anything right in this game. Heck, they haven't been able to do much right all season. Mexico City failed to cross the 50 yard line every time they had the ball. Every possession for the Luchadores resulted in a punt. When the game was over, casual fans who saw the game on USA were left to wonder if anybody could really stop the Avengers.
