Re: The World (League) According to Neo

Prior to the kickoff of week five, the World League of American Football confirmed they had granted the fourteenth franchise to the ownership group in Portland, Oregon, led by Trail Blazers founder Harry Glickman. Three years earlier, Glickman had sold his NBA team to one time Microsoft executive Paul Allen.

Re: The World (League) According to Neo

The fact that Paris has a player with the last name "LaFrance" is the best part of that team for me.

When he does well, do the fans all cheer "Vive LaFrance"?

Yup. The same George LaFrance who played in the Arena League in real life.

Re: The World (League) According to Neo

Week 5 1991

Mexico City at Amsterdam

Luchadores quarterback Brent Pease was intercepted six times in his team's shutout loss to the Admirals by the score of 35 to 0.

Baltimore at Toronto

Once again, John Randle shows why he is worthy of an NFL roster spot with five sacks in Baltimore's 38 to 24 victory at the Skydome.

Orlando at Frankfurt

Kerwin Bell threw for over 240 yards to help his Thunder beat the Galaxy by the score of 28 to 14. Now at 0-5, the Galaxy will have to start playing for pride moving forward.

NY/NJ at London

Eric Wilkerson ran all over the Monarch defense in the first half, but London turned the game around after Dedrick Dodge picked off a Jeff Graham pass on the first play of the third quarter. London would win big 38 to 28, keeping the Monarchs at second behind Amsterdam in the European Division.

San Antonio at Paris

Phantoms kick returning ace George LaFrance ran back the opening kickoff for a touchdown. San Antonio would never recover. New Riders quarterback Jim McMahon was benched after throwing a pass that was deflected, then intercepted. Lee Saltz, back from injury, was also of little use for San Antonio. Paris would triumph 28 to 3.

Los Angeles at Sacramento

LA's Marcus Allen continues to embarrass World League defenses as he has all season. The first battle of the Golden State saw the Avengers and Surge square off at Hughes Stadium. Two touchdowns from Marcus included a 26 yard run that saw him plow through Surge defenders like they were cardboard. 24 to 13 was the final score in favor of the Avengers. Younger brother Damon Allen wore the HelmetCam for the USA Network's coverage.

Re: The World (League) According to Neo

WEEK SIX
March 30, 1991
Orlando Thunder 35 at London Monarchs 42
Venue: Wembley Stadium
TV: USA Network
Announcers: Bill Macatee and Warren Moon
Sideline Reporter: Nick Halling

Kerwin Bell of Orlando and Stan Gelbaugh of London engaged in a quarterback duel for the ages. But in the end, it was Englishman Victor Ebubedike at running back who helped slam the door for the Monarchs.

Frankfurt Galaxy 17 at Sacramento Surge 10
Venue: Hughes Stadium
TV: USA Network
Announcers: Tim Brandt and Dan Marino
Sideline Reporter: Jack Arute

At last, the Frankfurt Galaxy finally won a game! However, the season is halfway over and they'll need a TON of miracles to even think of getting into the postseason.

March 31, 1991
Paris Phantoms 24 at Toronto Huskies 13
Venue: Skydome
TV: Fox
Announcers: Kevin Harlan and Jerry Glanville
Sideline Reporter: Mick Luckhurst

KEVIN HARLAN: "Novo Bojovic, former USFL kicker, will put the ball on the tee for the Huskies. Back deep for Paris is George LaFrance, right now the #1 kick returner in the World League. Bojovic kicks off. LaFrance...takes it at the eleven...gets a block to the fifteen...the twenty...another block to the thirty...CROSSES MIDFIELD...BOJOVIC CAN'T STOP HIM...FORTY...THIRTY...TWENTY...TEN...FIVE...TOUCHDOWN PARIS!!!! OH BABY, WHAT A PLAY!!!!"

NY/NJ Knights 42 at Mexico City Luchadores 10
Venue: University Olympic Stadium
TV: Fox
Announcers: Eric Clemons and Cris Collinsworth
Sideline Reporter: Julie Moran

The Knights' Run and Shoot offense was running on all cylinders. Eric Wilkerson was brilliant on the ground for the Knights while Jeff Graham connected with Kip Lewis and Monty Gilbreath on a pair of touchdowns each.

Los Angeles Avengers 34 at San Antonio Riders 14
Venue: Alamo Stadium
TV: Fox
Announcers: Barry Tompkins and John Robinson
Sideline Reporter: Jim Valvano

Jason Garrett was back in uniform for the Riders, but he spent most of the game on the bench while Jim McMahon was sacked five times in another painful loss for San Antonio. Once again, it was the Dynamic Duo of Marcus and Damon Allen who led the Avenger offense in a comfortable win.

April 1, 1991
Amsterdam Admirals 28 at Baltimore Stallions 21
Venue: Memorial Stadium
TV: USA Network
Announcers: Brad Nessler, Boomer Esiason and Dennis Miller
Sideline Reporter: Michael Barkann
HelmetCam: Chris Chandler (QB; Admirals)

Amsterdam quarterback Chris Chandler used misdirection and play action to keep Stallions defensive captain John Randle quiet the entire game. Chandler was also complemented by Belgian Eric Yuma opening holes for Dutchman Frank Temming to lead the Amsterdam rushing attack.
