Wildcard Round

7 Quebel Crusaders vs 10 Bancana Kings
A close series saw the Kings' Pete Lentini win the scoring battle between he and Joel Eklund. Lentini scored the OT winner in Game 4 to notch the upset. [BAN wins 3-1]

8 Portarra Pioneers vs 9 Vensessor Swans
The series was a slugfest as both teams locked in defensively. The Pios jumped ahead early with a pair of shutouts but the Swans battled back and won three in a row to move forward. [VEN wins 3-2]

Quarterfinals

1 Portarra Whales vs 10 Bancana Kings
A shocking 11-0 blasting in Game 1 by the Whales turned out to be an outlier as Bancana bounced back with a double OT win in Game 2 and turned it into a close series. A disallowed goal from Lentini late in OT in Game 6 allowed the Whales to notch the winner and clinch the series instead. [POR wins 4-2]

2 Kavalos Electrics vs 9 Vensessor Swans
In an exciting back-and-forth series, the Swans took Kavalos all the way to the brink before the Electrics' offense roared to life in a 7-1 Game 7 win. [KAV wins 4-3]

3 Alko Wizards vs 6 Kurohara Killers
The Killers came out fast and furious but the Wizards steeled themselves and fought back into the series to take it to a winner-take-all. Sam Sebastian scored the eventual game winner in a 3-1 win in Game 7 for a hard-fought series victory. [ALK wins 4-3]

4 Alko Barbarians vs 5 Kirlow Kodiaks
A triple overtime thriller in Game 1 set the tone for the series as the Barbarians prevailed. It was a trial by fire for the Romanov brothers who acquitted themselves well enough despite losing the series to Alko. [AKB wins 4-2]

Semi-Finals

1 Portarra Whales vs 4 Alko Barbarians
The mighty Whales were a completely different beast than the youngsters in Kirlow and the Barbarians had trouble keeping up from the start. The Whales w

Morris is a town in western Minnesota that will also be joining the Granite Hockey League. With a population of over 5,500 Morris is a fairly big city for the region and they felt it was time to get a team of their own. The Mules will play their home games at 500 seat Morris Ice Arena.

They will be called the "Mules" stating that they want to mimic a Mules strength and work ethic along with it just sounding good. Their logo is a kicking mule over a M for Morris in the teams colors of forest green and red.

This whole set is gorgeous. Make a green and red team look good? Absolutely nailed it. Fantastic. I'm a fan.

I auto drafted, but why did my two picks come in rounds two and three, instead of in round 1 (my pick and the Hammerheads pick)?

Edit: It appears that the Sabrecats and Steelheads 1st round picks were skipped as well

It was part of an elaborate plan by Jerome Bettis to sabotage the West. jk. There actually were some issues during the draft that Gritty will discuss further. Several teams were affected and I know he plans to rectify it somehow.

1989 REGULAR SEASON

Willard Division: There were no surprises in the Willard as the Whales cruised to the top with 52 wins. Bill Bronkowski earned an All-Star but was quieter than recent years as the team was locked in on earning the #1 seed and returning to the Cup. The veteran Pioneers squad battled for second place and got it easily even with an aging roster. The Serpents were terrible after the departure of Konrad Kedzierski and only scored 82 total goals on the season. The Rockets and Anchors both struggled, with Fort Bevin's stars too old and Port Alrene's roster still lacking scoring power.

Hatch Division: The Wizards climbed back to the top of the Hatch as forward Sam Sebastian took a major leap in leading the team in scoring and earning a Best Forward for his efforts. Arlie Lozano continued his fantastic play in the net. The big story was the Kodiaks who charged hard from the basement and nearly stole the division as the Romanov brothers made a big splash, each earning an alternate All-Star selection for carrying the team to the playoffs under the tutelage of rookie head coach Barry Stover who won Best Coach. It's a coming-of-age season for Kirlow. In third place and earning a wildcard was a motivated Swans squad who rode a lights-out Andre Kabbani in the net. The Herons made a good show of it but it wasn't enough to get into the playoffs as the roster ages. The Neptunes fell off a cliff as the team is also showing its age. Surprisingly, the Blazers struggled from the gate, with injuries mounting they found themselves in the basement and will have major questions in the offseason.

Elam Division: Defenseman Frankie Albertelli blossomed with a legitimate scoring option on the team in Konrad Kedzierski and the Barbarians jumped out to an early lead in the division to notch the title. The Crusaders kept pace but tapered off toward the end of the season and nearly lost a playoff berth t

Just your daily reminder that your keepers are due tonight! Tomorrow I will manually add players to teams to reflect offseason trades and the rookie draft.

In preparation for the new season I want to officially welcome our new owners. A shake up in the AltFL West to be sure. See you all on Saturday!

The Orbits are a fun story but that's OK, because we needed some fresh meat to destroy in the playoffs. AHTR
