NEW FACES AROUND THE MLA
The Major Lacrosse Association would add 3 new teams to the league. Teams from Brooklyn, Ottawa, and Winnipeg. This expansion set will grow the league to 11 teams.
The league will return to its 3 division format with the Central, East, and West divisions. The East will consist of: Boston, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Ottawa. The Central will consist of: Chicago, Cleveland, Toronto, and Louisville. Lastly, The West will consist of only Colorado, Omaha, and Winnipeg.
Additionally to the restructure of divisions, the league will expand from a 4 team playoff to a 6 team playoff. Each division winner will clinch a playoff spot, with the top 2 teams recieving first round byes.
LOUISVILLE SITUATION GETTING SHAKY
Trent Duff and his lacrosse team have been in hot water recently. With their stadium deteriorating, lack of success, and team chemistry has made their fanbase less interested. Trent is interested in relocating the team for greener pastures. He has looked into 4 different cities for relocation.
Milwaukee, WI
Milwaukee has been on the league's radar for some time. This would add another team in the Great Lakes region, as well as give Chicago a close rival. The plan will call to play at City Park which can hold 5,000 and would have to go under renovations to host a lacrosse team.
Columbus, OH
Similarly to Milwaukee, Columbus has been on the league's radar for a long time. Columbus has a couple decent venues that could be used in the meantime while a long-term venue is constructed. Overall, the city would welcome a team but, there are other owners who would like to get their grasp on Columbus first.
St. Louis, MO
St. Louis is an interesting city on this list for sure. The Otters did not work out on the pro level, but that was due to their lack of success on the field. Municipal Stadium is a fine, albeit aging venue but the stadium can certainly service a te

It is the 1974 Championship. A battle between the Falcons from Toronto and Manhattan. The number one seeded Toronto came from a 10 goal blowout win over Colorado and Manhattan barely beat Boston in a shootout of a game.

Manhattan wins the face off and its Midfielder Mike Smith running it up the field. Smith makes a pass to Alec Pryor as Pryor immediately passes it to a cutting Flynn Lamar... Lamar makes the catch and launches it towards the goal... the ball gets tipped by a Toronto Defenseman... AND THE GOALIE CANNOT MAKE THE SAVE! MANHATTAN WINS IT IN SUDDEN DEATH!

Manhattan has done it, the Blue Jays are back to back MLA Champions. The Player of The Game award was given to Flynn Lamar for the game winning goal. Flynn Lamar has now won POTG two years in a row.

After an unbelieveable 3 quarters by both teams, Manhattan Midfielder Niklas Niek walks off the game with a goal in the 4th Quarter. This will send Manhattan to their second straight MLA Championship game and they will travel to Toronto to take on the Falcons.
This game marks the second year in a row Manhattan ends Boston's season in the playoffs. This game only fuels the rivalry between the two clubs.

After the game Colorado was left embarrassed after a 10 goal blowout. Colorado's defense was horrendous throughout the entire game and could not piece anything together. On the other side of the field, Toronto was having a field day and wanted to show the rest of the league that they were a legit 1 seed and have a shot at the championship this year. Toronto's Noodin Kenosha managed to get a hat trick, the first time the 26 year old has gotten one.
The Toronto Falcons advance to the MLA Championship and will face off against the Boston Seawolves or Manhattan.

The conclusion of the 1974 season.
Toronto and Manhattan finished in their expected spots with 11-3 records. Toronto being ranked above Manhattan due to sweeping Boston which Manhattan did not accomplish. Boston also finished at their expected 8-9 win range, a solid team this season. The Colorado Jackals were an absolute wildcard here with a 7-7 record. The Jackals beat the Roadrunners in the last game of the year which sent the Jackals to the playoffs, if Omaha wins it, Omaha makes it. As previously stated, Omaha was close to a playoff berth, a 5-6 loss eliminated them from the playoff race. The Chicago Cardinals with a 6-8 record is a surprise, it isn't due to the lack of play from Wildgoose but rather the shock of losing Wildgoose early on in the season that really did the damage. The Cleveland Thunderbirds with a 4-10 record was certainly a surprise, especially being 8-6 the previous year. Cleveland can certainly be good, they just need a big name on their team. Louisville needs to change something soon. Louisville's attendance is dwindling which could leave their team in jeopardy.
Playoffs
Manhattan will be hosting the Boston Seawolves as a rematch of the 1973 MLA Championship where the Seawolves got shutout 5-0. Meanwhile Toronto will play host to the Colorado Jackals in their first playoff appearance. The Falcons think they will have an easy win but the Jackals play with some grit.

1974 Midseason
Toronto and Manhattan both started with an electric start with Toronto having the number one spot due to Toronto beating Manhattan by a score of 9-8. Toronto's only loss came from 4-5 loss in Denver with a very rowdy Jackals crowd. Before the midseason point Manhattan gave Cleveland and Omaha both a 12 goal beatdown. Boston sees themselves with a 4-3 record with an opportunity to take the higher up in the standings, Boston's defense keeps them out of games but their young offense is what keeps them in games. Cleveland and Colorado coming in at 3-4 is no surprise, Cleveland has an older team like Toronto, but unlike Toronto, Cleveland cannot win games with their old team. Meanwhile, Colorado has three very young talented Attackmen that need to figure it out. Louisville just cannot find an answer at this point, their poor play on the field is causing their attendance to drop. Louisville could be the next team to drop. Compared to Louisville, Omaha really isn't that bad. Omaha's record doesn't show the fight and grit they put up throughout the first half of the season, they just need another piece to really seal their team. Lastly, Chicago in last place is weird, it shocked the nation. In Chicago's 6-3 win over Boston, star Attackman Chase Wildgoose tore his ACL and was ruled out for the rest of the season. This led to four losses out of their last five. Chicago is hoping Attackman Nicolas St Jean can step in and fill Wildgoose's shoes.

1973 Offseason Continued
MAJOR SIGNINGS
Former Golden Horseshoe players signed with new teams. Attackman Noodin Kenosha signed with the Toronto Falcons. Attackman Max Powers made a bold move and signed with the Colorado Jackals after Cliff threw a large sum of money at him. Midfielder Todd Sweeney signed with the Toronto Falcons as well. Defensemen Jacob Bailey signed with the Cleveland Thunderbirds.
Two Philadelphia players were part of the major signings. Defensemen Collin-Jones Bakersfield signed with the Chicago Cardinals and young Attackman Alec Pryor headed over to Manhattan.
St. Louis Midfielder Barrell Hampton signed with Chicago and St. Louis Defensemen Wolfgang Sebastian signed with the Omaha Roadrunners.
There were a couple fresh out of college signings. Boston signed Attackman Emerson Homer from St. Botolph. Chicago signed Defensemen Victor Lozano from Chicago City College. Louisville signed Midfielder Blake Gerard from Brooklyn.

1973 Offseason Meetings

The 1973 season concluded with Manhattan winning the MLA Championship 5-0 versus the Boston Seawolves. There were no suggested rule changes this season, nothing too new to talk about.
The Omaha Roadrunners will be leaving Roadrunners Field on the campus of Omaha College and will move into their new 10,000 seat venue, Railrunner Stadium. The name pays ohmage to the railroad industry in Omaha, as well as combining the name of the team.
Things were not so smooth sailing for some of the other teams in the league. DC Eagles owner Fulton Salem announced he would retract his team from the league and join a smaller lacrosse circuit on the east coast.
Golden Horseshoe's owner Blaine Thornton said due to his team's lack of success, fans gradually stopped showing up to games. He said the organization was going under and his lease at Brampton Gardens was coming to a close. Blaine's voice was shaky, a tear formed in his eye as he said he would be folding his team. The historic club founded in 1899 would be folding. Thornton said he was talks with groups in Hamilton, Ontario but plans fell through. Blaine thanked everyone for everything and said he was proud to be a founding member of a league he knew would be a blazing success.
Rodney Lane, the Philadelphia Rattlesnakes owner said he would follow DC's move and join a smaller league on the east coast. Rodney said DC and Philadelphia would carry on with the "MLA spirit" and would play with the same heart and energy that the MLA did.
Lastly, similarly to Golden Horseshoe, Stone Mervyn announced St. Louis would be folding. Stone was not emotional at all, frankly, he was glad to fold the team he bought. He realized lacrosse was not for him, after attempts to sell the team and no bites, he realized that folding would be the correct idea.
With the MLA now out four teams in one offseason, the rest of the owners began thinking of how they could resolve this problem. The first was

The 4th MLA Championship game commenced in Manhattan at Blue Jay Park. The match saw Manhattan take on the Boston Seawolves.

Well, Boston may have gotten shut out in their first ever championship appearance, however, they held the Manhattan offense to 0 goals in the 1st and 4th quarters. The Boston offense really had no openings for shots the entire game. The Manhattan defense played their heart out the game, hustling on and off the field and killing the Seawolves in transition, as well in ground balls, with Manhattan winning 70% of ground balls.
The Attackman Flynn Lamar was named as the Player of the Game.
The MLA Trophy was indeed leaving the Cardinal Grounds and will now be held at Blue Jay Park in downtown Manhattan.

Manhattan wins this battle and will take on division rival Boston in the MLA Championship. Manhattan sealed the game with 4 goals in the 3rd Quarter. The Falcons defense could not keep up with the brute force of the Manhattan offense. Manhattan will be home again to take on the Seawolves in the championship game.
