North American Cricket League (NACL)

The NACL was started as the first cricket league in North America in 1933. There are 6 teams with three in each conference. There are usually 12 games per season. The teams with the best records from each conference play in a championship game at the end of the season.

Teams:

Western Conference:
Detroit Spirits
Toronto Cricket Club
Chicago Zephyrs

Eastern Conference:
New York Emperors
Philadelphia (Great) Danes
Montreal Voyageurs

The Detroit Spirits are named after the statue called the "Spirit of Detroit" depicting a man holding a golden bronze sphere. The uniform heavily inspired by art deco design because of Detroit's many art deco style buildings.

The New York Emperors are located in Queens. The name is based on the nickname of NY: "The Empire State". The color is inspired by the emerald green of the oxidized copper on the Statue of Liberty.

Welcome to the boards, Anders! I like what you've got so far. I will say these (at least to me, a relative cricket layperson) feel very out there for cricket uniforms, especially in 1933. Like H-Town I'm confused as to what we're looking at - are these the original 1933 unis or are these present-day? Your initial post sort of implies that we're going to be stepping through the history, but I don't think anybody would be using a gradient in the great depression. Looking forward to see where you take this series!

I should've mentioned that these are modern day uniforms. I wanted to explain why these teams have somewhat old style names like the zephyrs or spirits.

In 2025, the six original teams still remain in the league. Over time, 4 additional teams were added to the league.

Teams added:
Newark Nighthawks
Columbus Serpents
Buffalo Billmen
Washington Metros

The Buffalo Billmen is a play on the Buffalo Bills football team. A bill is a medieval hooked weapon and a soldier who used it was called a billman.

Because Chicago's nickname is the "Windy City", the team name is based on zephyr, a name for the west wind from Greek mythology.
